After combing through these forums, I''ve decided to go with Whiteflash to make a diamond purchase (I''m not too far from Houston).

I''ve narrowed down my selection to these three for an engagement ring. But as a first timer, I''m always skeptical and doubting myself. Are these good diamonds for what they''re worth? Thanks in advance.

I love the first one. It looks like a winner to me. You''re lucky to live near by. You can make an appointment and see all 3, or have them pull some others for you to see as well.

Have them put #1 on hold for you. If you want their help in looking at #2 & #3, it would be interesting to hear their feedback on them. They are not in house, but since they do have higher color & clarity...their spin on which is preferred would be interesting at least. In the end, probably #1, but who knows?

Read below my signature for this crafty approach, which I''ll take credit for, even though you hadn''t read it yet. Good work!

I would go for #1 as well. #3 is already a smaller stone and has a higher depth, so it''s going to look a little smaller than #1 and #2. While I personally can understand somebody wanting higher color, I never think clarity is worth it when all of the stones are going to be eye-clean. I think G/VS2 is a great combination, and #1 is going to have incredible symmetry and light return.

I bought the following in May from Whiteflash.
1.524 J VS1 A Cut Above

I personally was worried about going with the J color.

I was worried for nothing. Everyone that sees the ring remarks at how beautiful it is.
Everyone being an expert - they always takes a guess as to the size and color.
Everyone alway guesses F or G. Noone has ever guessed lower than G.
And they are not just being polite by saying this. I''ve seen other rings with supposedly better color and this kicks their butt.

The light return of an H&A cut especially in a platinum setting is amazing. People have actually noticed the ring from across
a crowded room and stopped by to remark. Plus my fiancee Nancy loves it. What more can one ask for?

I can only imagine how beautiful an H&A G VS1 will be.
I think you will definitely be happy with the first diamond on your list.

Wow you guys are fast. Thanks for your input! It''s good to hear of a good purchase from Whiteflash as well. Gives me some peace of mind of throwing so much money at them.

There are many happy WF customers on here, including me. You are dealing with a great company, and their ACA''s are gorgeous.

Thanks for everybody''s input. I just finished my dealings with Whiteflash today. Very good service. I worked with Brian and got a great "lecture" on what I should look for in a diamond. In fact, he was so helpful that he gave me the diamond for free! But then charged me for viewing the diamonds. Here''s what I walked out with:

with this setting:

I''ll get some pictures up once they arrive and onto the hands of my beloved girlfriend.

Now that''s a winning combo if ever I saw one. Congrats, she will love it. Don''t forget to come back with hand shots!!!

Iasthai,

Congratulations!

Any backstory you want to share?

Did you look at the out of house options? Were you persuaded it would not be a good use of your time. Originally, you were motivated by their lower color...is that why you went ultimately with a lower color option ACA than you originally considered?

Basically it came down everyone''s opinion here that with ACA, clarity wouldn''t really be as big an issue as I thought it would. The out of house diamonds weren''t available but I got to look at some that were similar and quite honestly, to my untrained eye, I couldn''t tell the difference between any of the diamonds. (I inspected all the diamonds without knowing any of there specs.) They were all ACA, ranging from E-H color, SI1 and there was a VS2 in there as well.

It''s funny and ironic because after a year of research, it just came down with my emotion and gut feeling. I saw the .77 E SI1 and thought to myself, that''s the one. No reasoning at all. It just felt right.

Thank you guys again. It''s been a fun experience.
