First time poster on Preloved Destashing/OEC 3.09 M VS2 GIA Cert

I have decided to upgrade my engagement ring, so am starting a major destash.

So much easier to buy sparklies than sell!

I will offer my e-ring for consignment to JBG and Lang if there is no interest here.

The stone is worth a lot, so I am happy to use an escrow service like Neil Beatty.

As a potential buyer for a stone like OP’s,
I don’t think the faceting pattern between the comp you listed, and OP’s as an OEC would make a fair and relative comp at all.

Also just to keep in mind that Grace at JbG's consignment fees are 15% for items 20k and above. I'm not sure what Lang's fees are but that's also worth factoring in as well.

I think OP is referring to an upgrade program in response to Lulu’s question. I’m not positive but that’s what it seems like.

OP One thing I will say is that many people on the forum prefer to buy from PSers that have been active and known on the forum. Trust has already been built that way. So I hope you’ll start sharing on the forum anyway because that ring is beautiful and we always welcome new members! At that price point, if you don’t go through the upgrade policy I would also consider going through Grace.

Thank you to all who responded. The reason I can get back what I paid for it is because I bought it from the Real Real 2 years ago, and they claimed it was a G/H. A M is materially different, and they have said they will refund my money. They will not, however, cover the cost of the GIA cert. Grace has said she would list it at $28,000. That is $3000 more than I paid, but doesn’t net, after commission, as much as I will get from returning it.

Diamond prices have gone up. The RealReal will make $ on this return. If someone wants to pay me what they will ($25,000) I would rather a PSer benefit than the RealReal.

I have been on the Forum since 2012. I am a first time poster on this part of the Forum, and reselling. I do understand about building trust. That’s why I offered to send it to Neil Beatty. The stone is also inscribed with the GIA certificate number. Not much more I can do.

Hey if u end up returning check one of the threads where they said the real real did not have insurance covered for the return or something, I assume you would do your own with insurance ( I think they returned a new purchase ) , but I thought I would just add in case

I remember OP! Isn’t your Avatar a Kashmir blue sapphire ring? I was drooling over it when I saw the thread.
Forgive me if I remembered it wrong.

Alex park posted a reel back in Jan where he sold a 2.8 M VS2 (loose stone listed at 15000) with very pretty pattern and made into a ring for a customer. So I can see why people say OP’s 3CT ring is priced too high. Then again Alex Park typically have very good prices. And prices probably went up since then.

Hi there, I sold my 3.03 M VS1 (AGS) with its platinum setting for $20.5k (listed at $21.5k, I lowered the price for my buyer because they were traveling to me to see it and they were a super nice couple, call me a sucker). This price was about $3-4k below comps from loose stones listed on OWD. I’m not sure how much difference a 0.06 carat and a platinum setting would make, but I was able to sell my ring in a few months. I do think the demand for high quality old diamonds is high and if you list with JBG at that price point you’ll probably sell quickly in exchange for a higher consignment fee. Without the audience that JBG has, and at the listed asking price of $30k on LT, selling on your own will probably take longer.

I am appalled that TRR would do this. It reinforces my opinion to not buy gems from them. In TRR fashion, I am sure they vetted its "authenticity" (yup, it's a diamond) but after that, anything goes.

I would take the return and not be tempted by the change in the diamond market -- which we small fish can not reliably capitalize on.

I trust you and have enjoyed your posts and think you have great taste. But you are an internet stranger and that's a lot of money. Yes, this would be a ridiculously long con (!) but I am still nervous.

I view it like selling gasoline. The pros seem to have no trouble selling it all day long but I can't even sell a few lousy gallons in the parking lot at work -- where everyone knows me!

To my way of thinking, your yield will be higher returning it to TRR -- this way you won't have to incur escrow costs or wait for a buyer.

Also, TRR should bear the cost of the returning shipping and insurance, since it was materially different, so request that they email you a return UPS label.

Yes, I am planning to return it to TRR. Annoyingly, they insist I have to put it back in the mounting and Return the 8 setting I sized it to, back to the original 5. I understand their reasoning, but think they are wrong to insist in this particular case. However, that is the best outcome for me.
