Hi everyone! I''ve been a long time lurker and finally decided to make a post. My new fiance'' and I found this site to help us out tremendously with the ering purchase. We decided to use whiteflash to buy our diamond. We ended up getting a 2.01 ct rb and setting it with a setting we found at a local jeweler (i was very picky about the setting). I love my ring very much, but i am concerned that it looks small. Perhaps i am already suffering from dss? or maybe its the setting make it look small? The icing on the cake was when i showed it to someone yesterday and they said it looks like 1 1/4 carat! I know that i should not take what other people say to heart, but it has me concerned. I will attach the stats and some pics i''ve taken. Please let me know your thoughts if it looks small for its weight or not. My ring size is 6.5. Thanks for all your help!

Stats:
2.01 ct
7.99 x 8.08 x 4.99
depth 62.0
table 57.9
crown angle 34.4
pav 41.0
girdle med-sl thk
cut- gia excellent
vg symmety and polish
hca 2.1 i think

setting stats:
.82 tcw
.08 on either side of center and the rest are .05 , the average diameter of the band is 2.5 mm, the diamonds go to about 4 and 8 on a clock

whoever said that doesn''t know their jewels very well....it looks fabulous and very much like 2 carats!

Beth,

Welcome to Pricescope! Try not to worry about it. 2.0ct is a huge diamond! It looks great on your finger. What I''ve found is that the general public has no idea what a 1.0ct diamond actually looks like! My gf, for instance, routinely walks past jewelry counters and says how small all of their diamonds are, and they are all 1.5ct! She has no idea how expensive those are, but a little education will go a long way with her. What I''m trying to say is that the general public is not educated about diamonds and has not spent time looking at them to get a feel for sizes. As long as you''re happy with your diamond, it doesn''t matter what they say. Keep your chin up and remember that they are really just ignorant about diamonds.

By the way, your ring is fantastic!

Beth welcome,

Your diamond is very well cut and the size it should be, nothing to worry about! Also very very few people can guess the weight or size of a diamond with any accuracy, I wouldn't let that worry you either!

Your ring is beautiful and looks huge to me.

thank you everyone! i''m feeling better about this

BTW- Anyone who says that looks like 1 1/4 ct doesn't know what the heck they are talking about or have seen some REALLY deep, poorly cut stones!!

It''s gorgeous.

Beth and Andy, gorgeous ring!

Welcome as a poster officially and congrats on your engagement!

Your ring, to me, without a doubt looks like a two carat stone.

People tend not to be able to guesstimate size accurately. I experienced it too and flipped out. But most people are not so good at picking a size, so do not worry at all.

beth&andy -- that engagement ring is STUNNING and looks every bit of 2 carats!! don''t let that person and their commentary get under your skin, they just don''t know what they''re looking at! it''s fabulous, wear it in good health!!

Lucky girl!

It's beautiful! It definitely looks nice and also big. Way too many people are ummmm.... completely weird about other people's jewelry. Especially larger stones. For example I get asked how much my rings cost all the freaking time, at minimum once a week, and anyone who is willing to ask that is super pushy and won't take no for an answer generally. One woman started guessing random numbers yesterday when I wouldn't say anything! I am continuously flabbergasted at the general public and jewelry. So I wouldn't be too worried about that weird comment you got. It looks big and gorgeous! The setting is beautiful too.

It is amazing how your eyes get used to any size of center stone- what seemed enormous initially seems like either normal or too small depending on your perspective. I had my ring worked on recently so it took a two week vacation from my hand- it was so cool to get it back and see that it suddenly looked huge again. It's just one of those things- I think some people, when their eyes adjust to their new ring, start feeling like they want a bigger stone; others, once they've gotten used to their ring, just feel like it's comfy on their hand and their used to it, and the size is just right rather than huge.

If it really is seeming like it "shrunk", try putting it away for a week and if you have something smaller, wear that.

What an incredibly yummy and HUGE diamond!!!

It looks perfect on your finger, and I love the setting. :)

Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome sucks hugely... and it doesn''t help when your friends are adding to it either> ;)

For what it''s worth I absolutely love your ring just as it is. I guess if the problem gets too bad, you can always re-set it with a halo setting as some PSers have done.

Gorgeous ring though - thanks for the pics! :)
