Hi All,

Im just bursting with excitement so I needed to share. DH and I are expecting our first child in December . We found out that it's going to be a little girl! DH wants to get me a piece of jewelry to mark the special occasion but knowing how picky I am has wisely offered to let me choose it haha! No specific budget as of yet. Anyone have any ideas for a sentimental present?

First.... CONGRATULATIONS MOMMY TO BE!!!

Second, what occasion are we marking. I mean, are we waiting for the actual birth for the present (push present) or is this an announcement present?

Third, what do you already HAVE? A list would be great. It's hard to advise someone without knowing what they already own.

Fourth is there a mental 'not to exceed' budget?

If you have studs already, how about these "heart" jackets: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/jackets/hearts-jackets-platinum-5411p The hearts are just for you to see. You can get them in rose gold... if you like rose gold.

Another options is a lovely bangle: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-bracelets/beauty-bangle-18k-white-gold-5652w18 Again, if you like rose gold, in rose gold.

I would normally suggest a pink sapphire stacker. But your ring size is going to be wonky for a while, in all likelihood, so I am focusing on things you can wear all through your pregnancy and after too.

If you have what I would call a "very healthy" budget you might want to consider splurging a high end designer piece, since this is a sentimental occasion.

This says, I'm having a little girl I will pass this down to, to me: http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/collections/jewelry/floral/cosmos/vcaro5bv00-cosmos-pendant-clip-medium-model.html It's lucky, it has hearts but isn't cutesy, it's distinctive and memorable, and it's heirloom quality.

Or this one: http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/collections/jewelry/floral/frivole/vcarc96800-frivole-pendant-large-model.html (in whatever color gold you prefer). Or the all diamond version: http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/collections/jewelry/floral/frivole/vcard31800-frivole-pendant-small-model.html

Or really... any of these, if you like pendants: http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/search/search.pendant.html

Thanks Gypsy! DH said he would prefer to give it to me at the hospital when the baby is born. Due date is Dec 30 which could easily become January. I don't wear a lot of jewelry so I'd like it to be an heirloom piece. My current jewelry box consists of

- my 1 carat AVR and carre cut engagement from ring from Steven Kirsch
- engraved platinum wedding band from Victor Canera
- 1.07ctw diamond studs in platinum bezels
- 8 ct diamond bezel bracelet from CVB
- Cartier pink gold and stainless steel Ballon bleu watch
- Cartier love necklace ( gifted from DH when we adopted our dog)

So far my ring size has not changed but I'm only 3 months pregnant. I would love a stacker band but at the same time would actually like to be able to wear the present right away. The few pieces I am missing in my wardrobe is a pretty diamond pendant , a pair of pearl earrings , and a dbty necklace . I also would love to upgrade my engagement ring at some point . I've tried the Cartier love bracelet but for some reason just didn't look good on my wrist.
DH said max budget is 8-10K

Looking at your list, and looking back on some of your previous purchase posts, I would say that you favor QUALITY over any other factor. I adore that Cosmos one, it's out of budget (but maybe DH could stretch for it), but did you like it?

I personally would probably go for a nice Harry Winston pendant in your case. Have a look through them and see if any catch your heart.

You have a great budget.

You mentioned DBY. I personally wouldn't buy a branded DBY because you can get super quality without it.

Here are some Cartier pieces that might be nice:

http://www.cartier.us/en-us/collections/jewelry/categories/necklaces/colorful-jewelry/b7222300-saphirs-legers-de-cartier-necklace.html I would do this as a custom piece from a PS vendor, it's not distinctive enough, IMO to spring for the branded.

I can't get the links to work, but I love the Trinity collection pendants: http://www.cartier.us/en-us/collections/jewelry/categories/necklaces/trinity-ruban.html

And this is beautiful: http://www.cartier.us/en-us/collections/jewelry/categories/necklaces/galanterie-de-cartier/n7424171-galanterie-de-cartier-necklace.html

If you want a DBY I would do a 5 station DBY.

I would do three 1/2 carat stones : http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.518-f-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104084591009

So that would be 7k (max) in about a F/G VS color and clarity.

And then do two 1/4 carat stones in between them: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.252-g-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104084719042 So that's 1200 (max).

That's 8200 for the stones. And then the platinum necklace setting will likely cost another 1000.

That gets you FABULOUS sized stones. And top quality cut and quality.

My own BGD pieces have only gotten praise for their quality (definitely heirloom quality) and finish from PS appraisers. So I feel confident recommending them.

I do strongly recommend working with Lesley directly though. No one else.

With 8-10k I would upgrade the AVR. Or upgrade the studs.

If she upgraded the AVR she could get a really lovely custom cut gemstone AFTER the birthdate for the ring in the Baby's birthstone.

So if she's born in January- a lovely Tsavorite Garnet.
Of if she's born in December- A lovely Zircon.

That's a lovely idea too. And then when her daughter turns 18, 21, married, or has her first kid she could give it her!

Congratulations! I wanted to get that in before the discussion of jewelry became so involved that I felt foolish saying it! I would love to discuss your gift, but right now I cannot. It's super early on Father's Day. Giver your DH my best wishes today!

Hugs,
Deb :wavey:

Congratulations! I choose AVR upgrade if your budget is enough to allow for a good upgrade. I find I wear my favorite pieces most often so if you are like me you don't need lots of little pieces and a nice AVR upgrade might be just the piece you would wear always. Best of luck and wonderful news about your DD to be! :appl:

Me too! But I am a "one ring to rule them all" type person.

Reading between the lines, I think you want a pendant. Gypsy has some great ideas - I would personally do whatever you would want to wear daily. A fair number of moms I know have diamond initial pendants for their kids - I think they are very sweet. I personally would do a solitaire pendant and incorporate rose gold in some way, if you like rose gold.

Congrats! Little girls are so special. I vote for a pendant, but remember to get a substantial/very strong chain if you intend to wear it often once baby arrives. Babies and kids like to pull on shiny things!

Thanks VRBeauty, AGBF,Missy,Monarch64, Caf, luv2sparkle! I appreciate everyone's ideas. I like the idea of possibly upgrading my earrings as the stones were purchased through GOG and are under the lifetime upgrade policy. While I definitely do want to upgrade my engagement ring I feel sentimental about it and would rather turn my AVC into a pendant rather than trading it in. I would like to upgrade to a 2 ct OEC but have yet to find my "holy grail" stone yet. I don't want to rush into it so it might not be the right project now. I am still very partial to the idea of a rose gold stacker band. What do you think of these ?

Do you mean you want that in rose gold? I would like the VC in platinum but I would get a full, not half since you already have an engraved band from VC. But not sure how you feel about fulls. I know some people like the flexibility of non-fulls for sizing options in case your finger diameter changes. I do love the French cuts. Did you see MK514's new singlestone band? It is GORGEOUS.

I really adore that Alexandra band.

But I prefer the Erika Winters (Coati from PS) bands, in general and think they would be a knock out in rose gold. http://www.erikawinters.com/Wedding-Bands-collection.html

The Cordelia in particular is fantastic ( would get it full eternity) . And the quality on her pieces is phenomenal.

How about a set? One of Erika's bands or the Alexandra by CVB and this pendant: http://www.erikawinters.com/Pendants-Estella.html#.V2ikYzW_pKo in rose gold.

We can find you a gorgeous marquise for that pendant. Like this: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-search/0.81-Marquise--GIA-F-SI1-diamond-stock-MQ22763-cert-6212479274 (need an ASET).

That way you can get one NOW (the pendant) and then get the stacker at the hospital.

Awww, congratulations!!! :appl: That is exciting news!!!

I was going to say AVR or AVC pendant! Then I saw you mention you might eventually upgrade your diamond and use the current one in a pendant. I like the idea of a pendant because you could someday give that to your daughter, whereas bands might not fit. But I do love both the Victor and CVB bands! I think those styles go best for stacking with your current rings.
(I never saw your bracelet! Send me a pic if you can!)
