Hi everyone,

First off I just want to say what a great site this is! So glad I came across it and have learnt a lot just from reading through back posts, but I was hoping some of you pro''s could help me decide what to do.

I am trying to decide on my first pair of diamond studs and I have lots of questions so would really appreciate your help! – I don’t really want to spend anymore than about $700.

After reading through these forums I’m thinking that White Flash seems like the best place to buy.

My first question is: which of these earrings do you think would be better? The martini is a bit more than I want to pay, can someone tell me if they’re worth the price increase and why –is the colour difference H-G gonna be that noticeable?

WF: 14k WG, 0.5ctw, H, SI - $595 Princess Cut

WF: 14k WG 0.5ctw, H, SI - $645 4-prong Basket

WF: 14k WG 0.5ctw, G, SI, - $799 Martini Prong

Also, does anyone know what kind of backs WF Ready Set Go earrings come with? It says you can request screw backs, but if you don’t, what do you get?

Is WG really going to look a lot better than YG? Most of my other jewellery is YG, but if WG is going to make the diamonds look more sparkly I should get those? – I suppose being tiny studs it shouldn’t matter too much?

I''d really appreciate your advice :)

WF is a good place because of their upgrade policy. It does not apply to RSG so be sure you won''t upgrade and can get the best deal at WF before you go with WF RSG.

Is just one set Princess Cut? They will look smaller than Round stones of the same carat weight. Look to the mm size to compare stones.

I think White gold looks better on diamond studs. The prongs blend in and it''s as if they''re not even there. That way they visually enlarge the diamond. Yellow prongs would stand out and define where the diamond ends. KWIM?

Best wishes with your fun purchase!

G/H is so close and in smaller size, virtually indistinguishable face up. I would be more than happy to get H earrings if they are well cut. In fact, I''d even go as far as Js.

Also, does anyone know what kind of backs WF Ready Set Go earrings come with? It says you can request screw backs, but if you don’t, what do you get?
I believe they''ll come with regular butterfly pushbacks. Remember that the RSG do not qualify for future upgrades.

Are you sensitive to the nickel in WG? If you are, then maybe YG might be better for you. Also, the studs are small enough that you will not see much of the metal when it is set. Here''s an example courtesy of Aljdewey:

Some here prefer the martini 3-prong setting cos it sits more flush against the ear and sags less with the weight of the studs. However, with a 0.5ctw, I don''t think you''ll have a sagging problem even with the 4-prong setting. I''ll say get the 4-prong to save some money, unless you love the look of a 3-prong more.

Thanks you guys so much for your advice!
I think I will definately go with white gold and round rather than princess cut. Now I just have to decide whether or not to pay the extra for Martini settings or not! Does WF still offer a PF discount?

The PS discount only applies to loose, in-house diamonds. However, if you pay by bankwire, you'll still get the standard 2% bankwire discount from WF.

I can''t wait to see your studs when you get them.

I just got my WF studs in the mail on Friday!!! :)
They''re similar size - mine are just a touch bigger (total of about .6)
I didn''t get the ready set go, because I wanted to pick out ACA diamonds, and be able to upgrade if I decide to later.

The backs they come with are "heavy friction backs" - I was a little nervous about getting friction backs... but, once I put them on, I realized they aren''t going anywhere!

I got the 8-prong martini setting, and I really like it! I was scared it would be overpowering... but, I don''t think it is. They''re a little more unique than the typical 3, 4 prong settings.

Hey, thanks guys for all of your advice! I decided to go with the 3-prong martini setting and have ordered them today, i''m so excited :)

(Kristy_Lyn - i''m in NZ so decided that upgrading will probably be too much of a hassel to be worried about at this stage! Yours sound lovely, have you posted any pics?)
