Need help on this diamond I am looking at purchasing. The jeweler is Robbins Brothers. This is one of their signature Echo (98 facets) cut diamonds. The sale price is @ $7995. I am just unsure due to the talk about IGI certs not being up to par. Below are the certs.
Thanks you for any advice you might have this is my first time to buy.

I would avoid IGI certs and thats alot of money for a stone, I have a suggestion in addition to those you have above already

1.05ct J, SI1 but its a nice looking stone and likely this J's color is the same as the G color on that IGI cert :(sad

want a diamond off the beaten path, a bit different? How about a STAR129 cut? This one is in your price range too.

Add it to your cart to see the price, it wont show it to you until then

There aren't any facets that traverse girdle-table or girdle-culet so reporting c/p height % makes sense.

Agreed, don't like the IGI report - GIA and AGSL are respected authorities here in the US. Does RB sell Echo stones w/ GIA reports?

If you like the extra-facet look a Star129 as Ravin suggests would be something else to look into. Different faceting, but would share the overall predisposition toward quick, splintery twinkles

I think I too am convinced by your posts and some research that this IGI diamond is not worth it for the money. I am looking at all your posts and seeing some I like. Thanks for the advice.

In your opinion do the extra facets make the ring pop more? Or is it the combination of cut, polish, and symmetry that do this?

Extra facets (as in more than the regular 57) can make for a very different look and type of light return. One isn't objectively better than the other - just different. You might prefer the look and feel of extra facets ::)

In general, w/ rounds of given proportions, more smaller facets = quicker, smaller twinkles and flashes and less coloured light return through a variety of lighting types, and fewer larger facets = slower, larger flashes and more coloured light return trhough that variety of lighting types. On a stone of a given surface area adding facets necessitates that they be smaller
