I am in desperate need of help with purchasing an engagement ring soon. I am clueless as to where to start. I was thinking Tiffany's, Debeers, etc. but from what I've been reading, it seems that you wouldn't be able to get much with my budget. My biggest concern is that when I do not purchase from Name brands, I feel a sense of insecurity. I heard so many horror stories in regards to purchasing from the new york diamond district.

I am looking at a budget of $14,000 max. Most important is that I am able to purchase the best diamond that this budget can buy. It took me forever to save this amount and I really do not want to be cheated.

Budget: $14,000
Carat: 1.50 or anything close

I'm open to suggestions and would greatly appreciate any advice and help offered. I live in NYC.

I quite understand but a great solution for you is if you can get to Long Island, make an appointment with this vendor Jon at

www.goodoldgold.com

Jon is an expert and all around great guy, give him a call and tell him what you are looking for and he will have a selection of wonderful diamonds ready to show you.

In all my years here I have seen many happy customers of Jon's, he will take great care of you and you can purchase from him with the utmost confidence.

Here are some diamonds which might suit you

Yep. Jon and his staff will walk you through any diamond education you would like and you will end up with a great ring. They are on Long Island, but if you are that close, it would be worth the trip.

Thritto.

My suggestion is to window shop around before you even think about buying. Go to Debeers, Tiffany, and lots of other stores. Look at lots of diamonds so you get comfortable with the 4Cs and figure out what the best diamond for you is. Find out about how different lab reports grade color, clarity, cut. Most of all , have fun. You''re in the driver''s seat

Thank you for some of the suggestions. Once I purchase a diamond, do any of you have suggestion of designers for settings?

Same advice as above. Good Old Gold has access to tons of settings that are not on their website.

HI:

You have a wonderful budget and will be able to procure something really beautiful. You didn''t mention what "shape" of stone you were looking for. To be sure, GOG iis a great choice ( I have purchased from Jon), and there are many very happy customers on this board who have purchased from Mark from Engagement Rings Direct.

cheers--Sharon
