please help....I found a diamond on bluenile that I am interested in buying and was wondering if anyone can tell me their opinion on the piece...

cut - ideal
color - F
clarity - VS1
depth -59.4%
table - 59%
crown - 33.5
pavilion - 40.8
culet - none
polish - exc
symm. - exc
girdle - med to sl. thick
fluor. - none

I plugged in the numbers into the cut adviser and it came up excellent on all fronts, following with a score of 1.2...however I'm not really sure what this score entails. I have read about shallow crown angles and wasnt sure if this diamond fell into this category. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

in addition...numbers come from a GIA report and the dimensions of the diamond are:
5.62x5.66x3.35 mm, 0.64 carat

again, thanks for any help

The crown angle looks a little shallow to me, but that doesn''t mean it''s a bad stone. Also the table looks pretty large, again that isn''t necessarily a bad thing. But the two of them together would make me want to know more. What are the percentages of the crown and pav? It would appear that the girdle sits pretty high in relation to the total depth. Do you have idealscope images you can post here??

unfortunately, the only information i have is what is given by bluenile....

the crown % is 13.5%
pavilion % is 43%

Well, it is a low crown, again not necessarily such a bad thing. I know that you haven''t seen the stone in person yet, which should be the deciding factor. But there is a 30 return policy at BN. So if the stone talks to you get it, have it appraised within the return policy, then if you decide it isn''t a winner send it back. Personally, I''d keep looking.
In the mean time, check out www.whiteflash.com They come highly recommended by just about everyone on this site. They will be able to send you actual pictures of the stone, along with idealscope images, etc.... Nothing against BN, but I feel you get more from WF and you can always upgrade the stone later, BN doesn''t have a upgrade policy. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!

Ive looked at whiteflash some but they don't offer a view of the GIA/AGS report for most of the diamonds and the few that they do, it seems the image is always temporarily unavailable. Is this something that I would need to call for on a case-by-case basis?

I'm still undecided I guess...i read that ideal crown angle for AGS starts at 33.7....is 0.02 going to be a recognizable difference. I guess it depends on all the other factors. very new at this....

It won't make a huge difference. More light will get into the stone through the larger table and the shallow crown will mean that some light is lost. It's all an angle of incident thing
I wouldn't worry about being able to see the actual cert from WF, they post all the numbers anyway. If you wanted a copy of it I'm sure they would email it to you along with an idealscope image. They are one of the best around for a reason. You might also want to check www.goodoldgold.com you never know what new rocks he might have.

thanks for the help.

so, in terms of data, the following ring would be a better choice if priced the same:

carat: 0.62
color: E
cut: ideal
clarity: VS2
depth: 61.3%
table: 56%
crown angle: 34.5
crown %: 15%
pavilion angle: 40.8
pavilion %: 43%
polish: excellent
symm: excellent
girdle: thin to medium
culet: none
fluor: none
dimensions: 5.51 x 5.55 x 3.39mm
GIA report

Ok, that is a good start. But numbers only tell part of the story. Can we get some images?

Anyway, you''re looking in the wrong place at WF if all you''re getting is those temp images.

here''s a comparison .62 E VS2 for you:

and not to overwhelm:

I know I gave you a lot; didn''t know what you were looking for, so I searched .6-.7 E-G VS1-SI1.

Thanks. After seeing the actual pictures of the diamonds and the idealscope images, it''s hard to buy a diamond w/o these luxuries. Unfortunately, there arent too many diamonds that include these images. I guess I''ll just have to make a decision...hopefully before the week is out, I will have made a choice.
