Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.....so after taking the advice from my previous post, I''ve reserved a diamond at GOG.

Here were my criteria for a round diamond:
Color: At least G or higher (preferably F)
Clarity: At least SI1 or higher
Carat: Between 1.8 and 2.2 carats
Cut: Best cut available that fits within my budget of $30K

The setting will put me $1-2K above my budget, but here it is:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4582

Please let me know your thoughts on this one. Most importantly, I want your expert opinions on the cut and the inclusions? I''ve been so busy with work I haven''t had a lot of time to call GOG or Whiteflash directly to let them know what I''m looking for......but just happened to check and saw this one that fits my criteria....am I crazy for not spending more time shopping around? THANK YOU everyone!!!

beautiful. can''t go wrong. definitely need to talk to a person about the inclusions, though.

Welcome Warriorsfan!

That is a fabulous diamond!!! Ask Jon or one of the GOG staff to look at it for you to make sure it is eyeclean to your standards, if it checks out it could be a superb choice.

Wow - that is an extremely beautiful diamond!

Please do share photos of your finished ring. :)

Great choice - well done!

There aren''t a lot of well cut stones out there in this range anyway, so no, not if it''s what you want and within budget.

Looks yummy, hope it checks out!

this stone well be 101% eye clean a beautiful SI 1 ,but i would question Jon about the one smaller heart on this stone.

Are you serious? There''s nothing "wrong" with any of those hearts. I would bet my entire inheritance that there is nothing wrong with this stone or its performance.

Let''s not raise "issues" where there are none please.

Thanks for the advice, I will talk to them today about the diamond and its eye-cleanliness.......is it just me, or does it seem like WF ACA and GOG tend to have inventory either in the $20K and lower or $40K and higher range? Is the $25K to $30K price range just popular for the top level cuts?

You guys are awesome!

Too many variable to say why that is really. But I wouldn''t necessarily say it''s the most popular range, as the budgets we see on here are almost always well below that.

Let us know what they say about the stone, it really is gorgeous.

Hi Ellen, I spoke with Charlie and he said that its eye-clean and he could only see one of the inclusions with the loop, which they will cover with the prongs.....seems good?

sounds good to me.

Sounds excellent! That is a lovely classic setting also, your GF likes yellow gold?

Very good!

As for the setting, I''m all for letting a great stone have center stage, so I like a simple solitaire. But let me ask you this, do you have any idea what your girl would want/likes?

Also, as to that particular brand, I''m not really familiar with their rings. So I hesitate to say that particular one would be fine, because I just don''t know the quality.

The setting I ordered will be in platinum and it is meeting my girl''s specs......she prefers 6 prong with Tiffany setting.

Thanks for the comment on the brand......I will do a little more research on it.

All of your comments help, I can''t believe some of the jewelry I blindly purchased in the past.....so much research can be done.

Can''t go wrong with the classic 6 prong Tiffany style. I have heard good reports about Stuller, but that is always the best way is to research for yourself so you feel comfortable with your decision.

Hi Dancing Fire,

Thanks for pointing this out, which report shows or how can you tell there is a smaller heart on this stone? Can this significantly impact the performance? Anything that I will be able to see? Or is this just going to be a minor imperfection that only a trained expert would notice?

Thanks,

Hi again, so GOG rescanned the GIA report:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4582

Now that I can see this clearly, it seems like there are a large number of small inclusions......I realize this is helping the price, but will the presence of so many small inclusions impact how this will look to the naked eye? Any thoughts?

Ask Jon to look at it for you, he''s the head honcho. Anything we say would only be a "guesstimate". He has the stone in hand, he knows best.

this is the best kind of SI1 inclusions. i knew this stone is 1000% eye clean by looking at the pictures.

Good input.

That diamond happens to be a good example of why I don''t prefer plots and prefer photomicrography.

Oftentimes a plot, while truthful in its amount/location of actual inclusion, often does not accurately capture the actual relief of those inclusions within the diamond itself. Photography specifically taken under darkfield illumination more accurately conveys what a gemologist is seeing as they actually inspect clarity. Having said that ... pull away the microscope and use a 10x loupe only and half of those disappear as well. It happens to be an outstanding Si1. Should you proceed we also include a 10x loupe as well for you to scrutinize it too.
