This forum has been a great read for a first time shopper and now I''d like to start posting. I''ve learned a lot about what I want and I''m getting close to making that Ering purchase.

Right now at two different B&Ms in my area I''ve been offered these stones, both Princess Cut.

Stone 1: GIA cert, been told Ideal

CARAT 0.75
COLOR D
CLARITY SI1 (small feather which I have seen and my gf never will!)
DEPTH 73.2%
TBL 67%
GRD M-VTHK
CULET none
POLISH VG
SYM G
FLOUR None
MEAS 5.05x4.85
Price $3000 for the stone

Stone 2: AGA cert, cut grade 2

CARAT 0.70
COLOR F
CLARITY VS2
DEPTH 75.5%
TBL 66.5%
GRD 2.9%
CULET pointed
FLOUR Negligible
MEAS 4.82x4.82
Price $2400 for the stone

Both are nice stones, the first seemed a little nicer and I think I could talk them down just a touch. I''m also not opposed to buying a stone online, preferably from Whiteflash if I did, but I seem to be finding good deals locally. I''m really looking for a well cut stone that''s colorless graded (D-F) that would keep me below $4k for everything, keeping in mind I''m just buying a solitare setting on a standard Tiffany style yellow gold setting. Any opinions?

Also, these two different jewlers had differing opinions on platinum vs white gold setting, I''d like to know what some of you out there think.

MadMontie,

Tough call. There''s real benefits to buying locally. As is typical, though, you tend to get more readily, higher quality for a lower price on the web.

A comparable...not AGS2.

Use the search by cut to find more.
