Hello, and thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide! I am looking for an engagement ring, and after having done all the reading I can do online, went into a jeweler yesterday to look at settings and diamonds.

I found a diamond that I really liked, but would just like some feedback on whether this is appropriately priced. I have ran a search for similarly specc'ed stones through the search here and come up with a few that are cheaper, but I completely understand that there are many other factors at play. I also ran it through HCA, and it scored a .5, although I must admit the scoring there is a little lost on me.

The diamond I am looking at is .73 carat I/Si1 GIA Excellent Cut. Report # 5186146949. He priced it off the Rapport sheet at $2690, which I feel is a bit on the high side.

As an aside, although it is an I/Si1, it did look better than some of the other diamonds that we looked at which had better specs. Even though the salesman was very helpful, I am admittedly still a little overwhelmed by all of the bits and pieces of shopping for the perfect diamond, so again I appreciate any advice that helps me to arm myself as a more informed consumer.

Cheers!

Hi wolfpack88-
I was able to pull up the GIA report by the # and you have done some really great reading.

You chose a stone certificated by a well regarded lab and the table, depth, crown and pavilion angles are all with in parameters recommended my many on this forum.

I looked to see if I could find a comparable stone for less than $2690 on whiteflash, briangavin, good old gold and there were none I found.
and on James Allen your cut % and angles looked nicer.

perhaps someone else can find another option but the stone you were shown, if you like it, seems like at $2690.00 is not overpriced.

It would be great if you could have an idealscope image, because while that stone is probably a very good one, you usually want to see a pavilion angle closer to 41 with a crown angle of 34. I do like it's depth because it results in a nice diameter! But regardless, the .72 and .74 I SI1's on James Allen were $2420. You can do a little better online, but really, you generally expect to pay more at a brick and mortar jeweler. His price is pretty good, actually. Good luck!
