Wow... It''s just about all I can say. I really liked the "we mount all our diamonds for security reasons". That and the "these prices are already negotiated". Followed by "you better hurry, we are in the middle of a mark-up. I can''t guarantee this price for long"... really? I thought you just said the prices were already negotiated.... how can they go up?!?!?

My favorite may have been when they pulled out the L color, I clarity diamond to compare to the F VS1 I was looking at.

... and then telling me that the $7,000 asking price was the best I was going to find. Oh really? That''s funny cause I have all but bought the very same diamond with a better cut for $600 less!

Thought the rest of you could use a laugh... that and I can''t (obviously) share this w/ my girlfriend (yet)

Isn't that the truth? After all that research and everything, you've undoubtedly got all these stories and you have to just hold onto them

until you can tell her. I'm looking forward to that part...obviously not as much as the proposing and such, but still. It's tough.

I hope you took good notes!
I can never remember funny stories if I don't take notes!

Yeah... I think posting it helps as much as anything. On a side note... the diamond they tried to sell me at HELL'sBerg ("did you know we are owned by Warren Buffet and have zero dept and have the lowest prices of anyone in the mall") was probably around a class 3 on the AGA chart (GIA sheet said 81% depth). I looked at one last night that was probably closer to a class 1B or 2A that had a higher color, and higher clarity that listed for $6,700.... and I'm sure they'd be willing to negotiate that number.

PS: I think if I went through life without hearing "we have 100 day free financing" or "so, you wanna take it home" ever again I could die happy...

Ok, let's take it sloooowly

... are you sure that a faceterd gem with round section and 81% depth was not a briolette (below)

I am sorry to hear all this, and even more so to have my own impression reinforced. Why should it be so hard to get pleasant shopping these days

Oh my god... I'm just about to die laughing valeria101!!!

Another thing I forgot to mention was when they took me back to look at it in the microscope, then proceeded to give their "WE let customers look at it through THIS. OTHER stores just give you a LOOP. You CAN'T focus with a LOOP! WE only use THAT thing to inspect the prongs on loose settings"... Then they gave me their "loop" which can only be described as an extremely poor magnifying glass... no wonder they only use the scope... I couldn't focus on printed words with that POS.

The other store in the mall only had one 1.0 ct. princess (I color, SI2, the cut was marginal at best)... set in a gold solitaire ring that had a $13,000 price tag on it. She told me she could give me a good deal on the loose stone.... $5,600. I said thank you and promptly exited (fearing for my mental sanity).

Indescisive, hee hee! You think that only happens at MAULS?! Hee hee...I went to The Diamond District, where one assumes the Pros abound...NOPE1 There are scammers and ridiculous people ALL over the industry! But nothing beats the quality of the mauls for those price tags, eh?

Hee hee...I love being on this side of the buyer's spectrum...knowing stuff...

I was asked to appraise a diamond solitaire from that esteemed purveyor of fine drilling equipment about a month ago by a barista kid where I get my morning coffee. FULL RAP on the stone was - drumroll here - $17.50
I kid you not. How do you tell some poor student that kind of news about thier e-ring?

Griffin, is that kind of sale legal ? I just hope it does not happen often...

"Fine drilling equipment" on my finger ? Huh !

Should every buyer be handed a copy of the Rap ?
