Next week I am interviewing a candidate for my team...it's my first interview as a manager! It's almost like I have forgotten how to interview. There is so much pressure now that I will be this person's supervisor. HR has already gone through the phone interview process with her and my director passed her through his phone screen. We did talk about areas I would like to get more information about her experience. But, I also don't want to come across as too business-like OR too casual. I have a week to prepare!

That's exciting! Congrats!

Just think, they are probably even more nervous than you are!

Good luck. I prepare a list of about 12 questions trying to get some insight in to their work ethic, experience and motivation. Over the years I find some people who interview well aren't the best employees and vice versa. It is a challenge to find the right person for the job.

Congrats and good luck! I'm notorious for throwing out the HR questions and asking my own. There are certain skill sets that are a requisite, but more than anything I like to go off the beaten path with questions so that I can determine if the person has the right personality traits that will work with myself and my team. Have fun!

Thanks! I don't want to walk in with a list of questions - I hate interviews like that. It should be conversational and I will want to pull three main areas of her experience and then ask follow up questions. I can do some prep beforehand, but I would like for it to not be Q&A time! This much I know :)
