I've been wanting to purchase my first diamond ring. This is a fairly cheap fashion diamond ring. 1 carat total weight, HI, SI2 clarity. I'm guessing the side stones appear more grey than the top stones.

What do you think of the design of it?

I like the top of it, but can't say that I like the chevron part. Still, it's a pretty good deal and I have a gift card from the store it's in.

Have you seen the ring in person? Do the diamonds perform well - do they shimmer and shine and give off lots of light? (You need to be able to see how the stones perform away from the jewelry counter lights, if possible. Those lights will make any stone look terrific!) If you can't get away from the lights in the store - does the store have a good return policy?

Do the prongs look even and secure, and not snag on your clothing?

Do you like the ring and how it looks on you?

How much of the cost of the ring does your gift card cover, and how much money (if any) would you be adding in out-of-pocket?

Personally I think the style is nice and could look very good on. However, I'd be concerned because often those cluster rings don't use particularly good diamonds, so the performance could be disappointing. If you like how the ring looks on you and how it performs in various light conditions, go for it. If you're not sure though... save a little longer so you can get a new or pre-loved diamond ring that will really knock your socks off.

Looks pretty wild to me!...

Thanks for the tips. No, I haven't seen it in person. The store is only online, so I won't be able to 'test it out' in person. :/

They have a 30 day no questions asked return policy, so that's a plus. I suppose that's one way to test it out in person and see if it performs well or snags and if it's just dreadful in person, at least it's returnable. It seems good deal to me for a new starter ring ($800ish).

I like the design, but it's not "classic." I guess that's what bothers me about it. It's my first ring purchase and is a bit of a "big" purchase for me, not costume to me. But, it seems like a good deal and a fun design. HI, SI2 clarity doesn't sound amazing, but decent enough of a starter ring I think.

You haven't bought it yet right?

Cause if you haven't bought it yet, I'm sure we can help you spend the money on a different piece that might have better quality. Because I would be concerned about the durability of that piece.

What's your budget? We can get you a nice starter ring, I'm sure.

Re: First diamond ring purchase. Thoughts on this ring desig

You can sell giftcards on ebay. I do it all the time.

Re: First diamond ring purchase. Thoughts on this ring desig

I don't care for it at all, but I feel that way about nearly all cluster rings, I'm sorry. Way too much going on. You really should let Gypsy suggest some rings at your price point.

What is the metal? $800 for one carat of H-SI goods set into a ring seems way too cheap to me. All of my red flag buttons have been pushed.

Thanks. It does seem very cheap to be decent diamonds at that carat/price range.

14K white gold, rhodium plated.

Ideally <$1000. Maybe even $800s like this one is. I can't imagine that I could get "too much" for this amount, but maybe there are better decent options. The price on this ring temps me, but that setting would take a licking if I wear it a lot I'm afraid. Is your concern more about the durability or the diamond quality? I'm a bit nervous about both. I do like the center setting though, and have a thing for pave and cluster settings.

Hmm. It's stats were:
14K white gold
rhodium plated with the stones HI, SI2.

Is white gold cheaper than yellow gold these days? Or does this still sound way too cheap?

Way too cheap. It costs more than this to properly make such a ring.

Yellow diamond - a little over budget. You could call David at Diamonds by Lauren and ask if when if there are more ring like this one coming in soon. (They also have a ring in this style with a lighter yellow stone for just over $1,000):

Vintage cluster ring, but with fewer and larger diamonds than the ring you were looking at:

OK, I'll admit that I'm a tiny bit leery of this one, but it does have a 14-day return period. Ask for the GIA certificate number:

I bought this ring and returned it as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. Its stunning and ask if they could take any referral or PS discount to make it down a little.
