I found these forums yesterday, and while I should be studying for finals, I can't stop myself from learning all I can about finding the perfect engagement ring for my girlfriend of 9.5 years.
I'm a 22 year old pharmacy student, so I'm definitely on a budget. I will be financing the engagement ring (yes, I've seen how looked down upon that is here) but I don't have much of a choice other than waiting 3 more years. By then I'll be making my pharmacist salary, but until then, it's summer jobs.
I'm limiting myself to around $1,500. I started my search with the Shane Co since they are so well known here in Indianapolis, but thanks to this site I have found much better sources. I'm particularly attracted to what the James Allen online store has to offer.
I was originally going for a three stone ring but then I realized that would be out of my price range for the quality I am looking for. I have now learned how beautiful a simple solitaire ring can be, and here's what I've came up with:
diamond: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1236866
a round 0.5 carat, H, VS2, Hearts & Arrows ideal cut
with this setting: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/engagement-solitaire-ring.html
How is my diamond choice? There are so many to choose from. I'm not ordering for a couple of weeks, so I'm not sure if the same will still be available, but if I have developed the ability to choose a good one now I shouldn't have a hard time later. I made sure to choose one that had a picture on their site, and did not have any obvious imperfections.
Also, I like this setting so well because while it is a simple solitaire, it's got some elegant detailing with the filigree basket and thin shoulder. This makes up for not having 3 stones, I feel. My only concern is that I know we will need to purchase a wedding band at some point. Will I have a hard time finding a wedding band to match up with this e-ring? My concern is that, because the ring is not flush on the sides, a wedding band with a good fit will be hard to find.
Thank you for anyone who offers any advice or answers any of my questions
I am very open to suggestions, and if anything, this ring I've built will show you the kind of preferences I have. Thanks a lot, I'm sure you know how important this is for me
