My mom is in town and we''ll be checking out two places, Amy Kuschel (http://www.amykuschel.com/) and Glamour Closet (http://glamourcloset.com/closet/index.asp)

The first is a traditional bridal showroom, selling only Amy K I believe. Glamour Closet sells designer samples. This is our first trip out and since the wedding is 8/09, don''t think we''ll be making any big decisions anytime soon.

Any good advice? What should I think about/bring?

A good strapless bra and modest panties are a good start. If you have your wedding shoes, bring them too. Going with your mom is a great idea to get a second opinion. Bring your camera in case you can take pictures; sometimes you can see things in a photo that you missed in person (à la "Kenneth Pool smiley dress").

Have an open mind, try on lots of dresses in different styles, and have fun!

Shave. I know it sounds silly, but they will see you in your skivies, so fit really is a good idea.

Don''t wear jewelry or very much make-up, if any. These dresses cost a LOT of money and those things can really cause damage for no good reason.

Try different styles and necklines. You may be suprised how much of a difference something makes or how different the style you like/don''t like looks on your body.

Bring a bottle of water. Trying on dresses made me so THIRSTY!

On one shopping trip I wore slip on flats and a plain knit dress that I could easily pull on and off. I could get dressed and undressed in seconds. It was so much more convenient than when I wore jeans, blouse, cardigan and shoes that buckle

Have Fun! And show us what you try on!

Amy Kuschel definitely only sells AK stuff, that's her line.

I've read a lot of yelp reviews about Glamour Closet, it sounds like you need to be prepared to buy the dress pretty quickly if you find one you like since it's a discount sample dress store otherwise you may lose out on it. I would definitely bring shoes you may wear or heels or whatever if you need to buy a dress like this.

Nude colored undergarments are good so you don't see white or colors through the dress. I wore sheer/silky boy short type underwear from Victoria's secret so they were modest but thin. Most places had a bra I could wear but bring a strapless one anyways. Photos are KEY too! And as everyone else said definitely try on ALL styles, even ones you may not think look good on you per se, you may be suprised!

Do you already have your jewelery? I knew I wanted to wear my pearls, so I wore them to dress shopping.

Don't be afraid to ask about alterations, especially if there are aspects of several dresses that you love but not all combined in one dress. For example, I didn't like that the dress I chose didn't have a sweetheart neck or a corset back - but those were relatively easy alterations.

This sounds really weird, but know what size bra you typically wear if they provide you with a backless strapless (or if you have one already that fits well, take it with you). I could always remember that I wore a different size in those but never what it was, so I'd have to go through 3 or 4 different bras before even putting a dress on.

Definitely keep an open mind - I hated how some things looked on the hanger and loved how they looked like when they're on (and vice-versa!).

Don't let mom or the consultant push you into making a snap decision. OH - and I would wait on the veil until you're really considering a dress - even though I hated the first dress I tried on, my mom got pretty misty the first time she saw the veil on.

Have fun!!!

This thread is so important. My co-worker brought her Mom and her Aunt with her and had in her mind what she wanted. Her aunt had picked out a two piece dress and she was like....Ooooohhhh ba-ruther! She tried on over 15 dresses and was getting cranky, but then in order to humor her aunt, she tried on the two-piece, primarily to shut her aunt up. And guess what?!?!?! It was the one. We still laugh about that. Who knew?

Keeping an open-mind is crucial, even if it is to humor someone who is with you.

Good luck!!
