First Birthday Gift Ideas?

Hi everyone!!

I'm hoping to get some advice from other moms out there. Luca's first birthday is coming up and my family has been asking about gift ideas.

I'm hoping to give some guidance because we have a very small house with little storage, so if everyone brought a big toy, it wouldn't really work.

Any suggestions? What did your one year old like? What do one year olds even play with?

I was thinking this tricycle would be cool - is it too advanced?

All ideas will be appreciated! Thanks!

I know this is a little *old* for a 1 year old but we already got our son the M&D train set for his upcoming birthday in Oct :)

He will probably get other things more age appropriate from relatives and since it's nearing cooler weather we'll probably find him a bike the following spring.

Yay for babies first birthdays! Went to fast though ;(

We're so mean, we asked for no presents at the babies' party

This is their favorite toy right now and was O's favorite at this age too (he got it for his 1st birthday). I love that when the kids make a huge mess I can pick up quickly by just throwing everything inside of this!!

I would highly recommend a water table as well. We just pulled ours out for the first time yesterday and it was a HUGE hit. We have this one, but I wish we had one with an umbrella.

B has this at daycare and LOVES it. Eventually we'll have to cave and buy one for him.

Not a toy per se, but this gets used in our house almost every day: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50178411/ Ikea has other styles too in different colors. I do not recall when S started using this, but it was somewhere btw 1 and 1.5, lol! I never know how moms remember exactly when their kids started doing certain things!

Ikea also has an easel and paper that's great.

I second the water table, big time! Hours per day were spent at the water table last summer! They also have those little slides for outside. Step 2 or Little Tikes makes them. We have this one: http://www.step2.com/p/Naturally-Playful-Lookout-Treehouse We even had it in our family room for a while this winter, lol!

This Fisher Price Little People Farm: http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/products/37354, though S is still not a big fan at age 2.

Refrigerator alphabet magnets don't take up a lot of space!

Melissa and Doug puzzles.

Bath toys.

Books!! I cannot get enough books right now. I may be back to post more on this.

Ooh these are some great ideas!!

I hadn't even thought of a water table. That would be pretty fun for him this summer. Adding it to the list!

Any other ideas?

What about wood blocks? The kind that are all different shapes. I want to get a set for B. He's in a throwing stage right now so probably not the best time.
