What does the intesity % mean on the FireTrace predicted light performance? Just recently looked at a diamond that barely came up ideal on the scale, the intensity was 78.7% and 58.5%. The salesperson explained to me that 78.7% number was the % of light that was being returned out the top of the diamond (if I understood correctly). Since the scale for Brightness, Fire, and Scintillation was showing "ideal" I just didn''t think more about it. Then I looked at GOG dimaond and if this report is shown, the percentage on the left always seems to be > 95%. Does that mean the diamond I was looking at had a lot of leakage? What would be good or bad percentage on this report.

Thank you in advance for your help. This site and everybody here has been so helpful.

I will say it is not a very good diamond.

What does the 58.5% mean?

I don''t know what the numbers mean exactly. I was hoping someone else did.

The Firetrace program has two parts - the graph and the raytraced images.

Although I personally believe the graphs and % numbers have improved over a number of revisions (earlier versions were rubbish), the raytraced images aren''t too bad and if you don''t have access to an IS or ASET, they''d be a reasonable replacement.

Don''t worry too much about the graphs. We use them and a lot of consumers like them, but the graphs (and % numbers) are sometimes way off.
