It must be a hubby thing because it was a must for mine, too.Date: 7/22/2007 11:13:01 PM

We are building a new home and one thing hubby loves is those fire places outside a la Nantucket and I am sure we will figure out something to have one. Not sure if it would be outdoor fireplace on a patio off the kitchen so it would share the wall with the indoor family room fireplace, but...it is a must on hubby''s list. I think flexible seating is the best plan, so you can maneuver things as you wish to and are not limited by set seating, but that is just my though.
I just don''t get it. I really like having a nice yard, but, I''d rather spend $ on jewelry or vacations than hardscape!Date: 7/23/2007 11:03:47 AM

I know, mine is OBSESSED with it. It is fine with me as long as it looks good in the general scope of my gardens and pool etc...
Ahhhhh, I can taste the wine now! I can''t wait for it to be done. No, no pool. It would take up most of my yard. Our association provides 4 pools, one of which is within 1/4 mile, so we really don''t need one. Also, it''s been pretty cool this summer. Our pool heating costs would be outrageous. And, yes, we are at the beach pretty often. DD has swimming lessons at our city pool that is right on the beach so we take a long walk right after.Date: 7/23/2007 11:53:20 AM

Miranda,
Your backyard sounds wonderful! I bet on a cool fall evening it will be wonderful to sit out there and sip wine. Do you have a swimming pool too or since you are close enough to the beach I bet there is no need? Your house sounds fab!!!![]()
LOL! Diamondfan, you crack me up. I feel the same way. DH has can get all of the stuff he wants as long as we can afford it, but, when it''s my turn...step aside!!!! We have spent sooooo much money on this yard and house. I do love it and it is for all of us, but, he really wanted many expensive upgrades that I really didn''t see the point in having. The itty bitty upgrade I''ve been planning doesn''t sound so big anymore. I guess that is the silver lining.Date: 7/24/2007 12:02:50 AM

M, sadly I do get things myself, so have to let hubby have his way occasionally!!! And our new property is sizable and will need some pretty things to be visually interesting. Just do not tell me I am out of luck...but I did tell him no more major gifts for a couple of years since I got my necklace. (I am not always good at keeping to it, but I am trying!)
He wants lots of garages and I know the next thing will be cars, he is sort of nuts about them, and he has been so generous to me I cannot really say no. I leave those things to him...if he is happy he is more likely to be generous!
Well, DKS, it is submitted to the HOA today. It should take a month for them to approve it. During that time we will be getting bids from contractors. SC is permit happy...You are right about that. Gonna put a chair in your yard??? Better pull permits! LOL!! We won''t start construction until mid September I''d guess. I really can''t believe this is taking sooooo long. I''m so tired of the dirt yard. I do not know what posessed us to wait so long to get the ball rolling. I know...whine whine whine!!!Date: 7/26/2007 10:09:02 PM

Miranda...what is the status? Are all the plans finalized and now just waiting for the build? Does all of this have the have a permit with SC? They are permit happy there.
On the subject of Leno garage and being bad...we have 16 right now. Well, I should say they have us.
Will you take us some images in the process of your construction? It would be fun to follow along with you!
DKS
That''s great to hear! Thanks for chiming in!Date: 7/26/2007 11:46:55 PM

I''m a little late but my parents have a portable outdoor fireplace similar to the one BigDiamonds posted and it is FABULOUS! They really love it, and they get a ton of use out of it throughout the year.
Ahhhhh...Garage space...We only have a two car garage!!! It''s tight in there with two cars and an extra refrigerator. We had a deposit down on a different house in our same area with a three car garage, but, puled it because DD''s room would''ve been too small. While we love our current house, sometimes I regret it.Date: 7/27/2007 1:19:39 AM

Miranda, garage space was one of the motivations for moving! With a teenager in the house, and three spaces now, we needed it. I always tease him that house stuff is not a gift to me since he will be enjoying it as well.
He has a very nice Range Rover but wants a sporty car and a sedan in addition. He likes the new Maserati sedan and LOVES the Astin Martin DB9 (I am NOT so into cars so I am not too sure if this is right). The way I remove bling photos from magazines is the way he does with cars. He loves to go to the car show in Philly, which is a good one, and see all the new stuff. A big boy and his toys...(eye roll, as if I do not have my obsessions, but mine do not need vast spaces and maintenance either!) I have no issues with it, but know I will not really allowed near his toys...he sees what MY car looks like and it makes him shudder.
Yes, I have worn it a couple of times now, to a couple of black tie events. I try to buy dressy stuff with a necklace neckline, so I can wear and enjoy it. I love having it but knew I would not be wearing it all that often.
