Ok, so I am pretty sure "the ring" has already been purchased but last week I was getting my watch cleaned at Cartier and I just asked them to check my ring size, just for fun... and I wanted to try on a few more rings. Anyway, my bf and I have had some issues with my ring size which has varied from 5-5 1/2 since we started looking. I want it to fit snugly but because of my job I may need to take it on and off a few times during the day. I know ring fit can vary based on the day, temp, time of the month, etc. but I am just getting nervous! I think "the ring" was ordered in a 5 3/8 so it should be ok, but my biggest fear is that he will propose and I won''t be able to get it on! How terrible would that be? I guess I am worried because when I tried on rings over the weekend, the 5 1/2 seemed a little hard to get on.

The e-ring band is pave almost all the way around so resizing could be a challenge. I should also add that I am 24 and we are pre-children so I fear the only direction I can go is up!!!

Anyway, just curious about how much one can expect ring size to change over a lifetime? Anyone actually stayed the same or changed a great deal? Any ideas for shrinking knuckles? Any reassurance would be apprecaited!

If there is a sizing bar at the bottom it should be able to be resized at least a little if done carefully. I'll cross my fingers for you. I haven't changed my finger size since high school (but I haven't had kids). My mom had an increase of one full size between her 20's and her 50's with children and a little weight gain.

My ring size has went up almost 2 sizes since I have been married

Well, it''s different for everyone. Over a *lifetime*? If one develops arthritis, all bets are off although there are still solutions for sizing around that problem too if it happens. Over my 25 years, my size settled at 1 full size larger with a 3.5 mm band. The wider or narrower the band, the more or less the difference might seem. I stack about 7mm worth of rings on my ring finger. At one time, my ring finger was 1.5 sizes up, but it went down when I lost weight.

My ring size has varied from 6 to 8. I think the sizing bumps sound like a good idea for you but you''d probably want the ring a little larger than 5 1/2. Good luck. I know ring / finger sizes can vary. My rings are tight in the morning and fall around on my hand in the evening.

Thanks for all of your input! I guess I shall just wait it out for now. Hopefully I will be one of the lucky few who keeps the same size, otherwise lets hope it fits when I recieve it and we will worry about finger expansion later
