After some more quizing and seaching, I have come up with 2 stones, one I have seen in person. The saleslady had given me the pavilion depth instead of angle - no wonder the HCA flunked it as to a thin girdle! When I finally received the AGA copy, it was excellent in all but the spread (VG) when I ran it on the HCA. It is:
3.103 ct
table 56%
Depth % 60.9
Crown angle 34.4
Pav angle 40.6
culet "none"
Fluor -none
H SI1
The imperfections are not in the middle, and now I need to put it under the scope at the jewelers, to see if anything is near an edge or breaks the surface - or would I find these things in an AGS 0 (which it is)?
I have already seen all its hearts and arrows, and they were just what the nice pics I found on this site showed as acceptable. The price is around $30,000 and they can manufacture the setting I want. I know there is a value to having a local jeweler to be there for you in the future.
It seems to be a very well cut stone and in the 3 ct range, there are fewer available.
I was also offered a 3.02 from our California connection in Silicon Valley 3.02, VS2, G, but when I ran it on the HCA, it was only very good in all categories and of course, the price was 20% higher. Am I going to see any difference in an H to a G when it is mounted?
Thanks for any input - this is kind of like buying a car price-wise, and I don''t want to screw up!
P.S. -my 1982 purchased ring was by an San francisco Jeweler, Sidney Mobell - still alive, called his "floating diamond" ring style . Has anyone out there ever heard of his designs- I think his things are in the Smithsonian now- It won''t fit on anything but my pinkie now - golf and age change things! So, WE are "upgrading" my ring - my husband is a very nice person.... Connie, DOGNUT

Don't worry about Vg on Spread, Connie. Many well cut diamonds rate VG for spread. Diamonds with Ex/Ex/Ex/Ex on the HCA are the exception and not the rule.

G to H,..... Generally most people cannot see a difference in color of adjacent grades. Your diamond is very well cut and will appear visually whiter and brighter than the actual color grade.

Only part of the price premium for the other diamond is the one color grade difference. A bigger part of the price premium is the jump in clarity. Clarity costs more than color.

You will occassionally find inclusions and feathers that break the surface. This can happen in any diamond. Can't wait for you to see it and loupe it. Waiting to hear what you think!

Sounds like a real nice diamond.
Enjoy :}

Just a thought - Can you negotiate the price? Maybe ask them their best price? It's a tad high - but maybe these large stones have taken a bit of a jump.

other than that - the stone looks very nice on paper. You mention you had seen it? Did it blow you away?

Thanks for the input - I didn't want to get attached to the stone until I had some questions answered! We go back Monday to scope it and negotiate! I feel there is some "fudge " room. They do own a cool lazer , so I can get some things done in their store that I need for fix -ups on old jewelry I have. I did compare it in different light conditions to my old stone - f, vvs1. Both fired a lot and sparkled. That was all my novice eye could see. I did answer the sales person intelligently and asked questions she had to get back to me on, - all things that I grasped from this site. She asked me after where I had gathered my info - she said very few ask the questions we did - just want a "pretty diamond". I said "so do I, but I want to look under the hood!"
I hope to have good news,

Sounds great. Let us know how it turns out.

I have an I/SI 3c stone. It faces up very white. I can see inclusions at a certain distance -tilted a certain way - w/o any corrective lenses. Make sure you look at the stone w/o your corrective lenses (if you have them). In a larger stone, you have more of a chance of seeing inclusions. Just make sure you can live w/ it.
