Finding Jared setting online

Hello. My girlfriend and I have been shopping for engagement rings and after visiting 5 stores she finally found a setting she liked at Jared. Here is a picture of the ring:

http://www.jared.com/en/jaredstore/...gold-561973900--1/100222/100222.100223.100226

The price for the ring does not seem too bad but their diamonds seem pretty expensive. I am looking to put around a 1 ct diamond in this and am trying to spend no more than $7,000 after taxes/mounting/etc. This would be impossible at the store. My other option is buying the diamond online and having Jared mount it for me, but I have read that there can issues with is as well and far as them taking liability for the diamond during mounting. If it bought the diamond online I'd rather just have them mount it.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to find this same ring online since it is not a name brand specific to Jared? Does anyone know where I might look?

Thanks so much for any help!

I don't have time to go through their inventory right now, but it seems that I have seen some similar styles. I'd start by looking here...

PSer are amazing at locating specific settings for people so I'm sure someone will be along shortly with lots of great recommendations! Congrats and welcome to PS! :wavey:

Thanks for the congrats! I did look on gabriel but didnt find the exact one, thanks for the suggestion though :) I will keep looking, definitely dont want to deviate at all from it since shes a picky little thing so i might be stuck with jared mounting a diamond for me.

Try tacori also I am sure that you will not find the exact setting but something similar ....There is alot going on in that particular setting so maybe you will find something else similar .Or what is wrong with having them set your e-stone with their setting. It seems that it is out of stock which means it has to be made anyway so call and ask if they do that

Sorry had to chime in again.....Jared is brick and mortar. You are so much better off having PS ers help you find a stone and setting here on line. The cut of a stone is so important..to give you an idea go to jamesallen .com put in 1 carat G color Si1 with excellent cut, excellent polish excellent symmetry and you will see the stones in 360 view is it really cool to select your own diamond.

I probably will have them mount my e-stone, hopefully they will be ok with being liable for damage during mounting. I thought I read somewhere that Jared wouldn't have any settings that couldn't be found online so I thought I would try as it would be easier that way. It is out of stock online but its at their physical store - maybe it is discontinued or something?

Anyway thanks for the help so far and I will try tacori.

They will NOT be liable for damage to your stone during setting. You will need to insure the loose stone with Jeweler's Mutual, which will involve getting an appraisal or sending them a copy of the purchase receipt. Then after the ring is complete, you'll need to re-appraise and have it insured. In most cases, it's better to buy stone and setting from one vendor.

The first setting that JulieN posted is AMAZINGLY close to the Jared setting, but with much nicer specs. The Jared settings are H-I color stones with SI-I1 clarity. Blech. The Gabriel & Co. settings are available through a number of dealers, likely some local to you, as well as two PS vendors, ID Jewelry (www.idjewelryonline.com) and Good Old Gold (www.goodoldgold.com).

Thanks so much for the info beth, i will look into the insurance and how much it costs. I showed her the 2 rings that were posted but she doesn't like them as much. I would like to just buy everything from jared or anywherethe else i could find the ring but their diamonds are so expensive, the only way i could stay in my budget would be to basically buy the cheapest 1ct I1 J diamond they have. Id save on sales tax too buying online which will probably be around 350 bucks. Looks like I have more research to do! Thanks for all the help so far.

I believe Jewelers Mutual only insures mounted stones. I don't know about the other PS vendors, but if you buy your stone from James Allen and set it in their cheapest white gold mounting ($180), James Allen will provide you with an appraisal on ring + setting for free. I used the JA appraisal to get insurance from Jewelers Mutual while I got my stone set by Sholdt locally. This ensured that I had the stone covered during the setting. I then returned the JA mounting. Sholdt is going to provide me with an updated appraisal after they finish setting my ring, which I will use to update my insurance with Jewelers Mutual.

I think it's very rare for jewelers to break round stones - breakage usually happens with princess cuts and even then it's rare - but I just did it for the piece of mind. I was planning on insuring my completed ring anyway, so this was basically just like getting my insurance a few weeks early.

Please don't go through Jared... You will get a much better stone for the money using a PS vendor. Another option is to get a stone and then have a local jeweler try to recreate the Jared setting...

Also, regarding JM not insuring a loose stone.... I JUST dealt with this and basically they *did* insure my stone but what I did was send them the specs and appraisal on my stone while the setting was being made. They just had me send an estimate/invoice from my jeweler for the mounting in progress. My policy was ready to go immediately. So I think they will work with you if you show them that you've commissioned a setting and that it's being worked on. And if anything happens in the process it should be covered. However, I also used a high end local jeweler that assured me THEIR insurance would cover my stone if anything happened... Another reason to try and go with a different jeweler than Jared.

Oh interesting! I just got my policy from JM less than 2 weeks ago and was under the impression that they wouldn't insure loose stones. I think I just assumed this because I read it in another forum (oops). The thing is, they don't insure anything without an appraisal and they don't take sales receipts as appraisal substitutes if the item cost more than $5,000. I didn't want to go out and get another appraisal done for just my stone (I think the cheapest appraisal I could get was more than $50) when James Allen would provide an appraisal on a completed piece for free. James Allen would not provide an appraisal on just a loose stone. Since the setting was so cheap, I don't think that my premium amount changed by including the setting in the insurance and it saved me the cost of getting another appraisal done.

It's all pretty confusing but I called JM and spoke to someone on the phone. They DID tell me they don't insure loose stones. BUT they were fine giving me a policy when I faxed them a sales order for the setting that was being made, even though it wasn't done yet and the stone was still loose. My policy was basically effective the day I sent the info and my understanding was that the stone was covered as of that date if anything happened. Now it's all done and nothing went wrong so we have no way to know what would have happened. But I felt good because I felt double covered by JM and my local (very trustworthy) guy.
