Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and I have to say that it's being an overwhelmingly, positive, experience. The vast amount of knowledge and discussions on here are really just awesome. I've enjoyed reading and learning about the topic that I am needing some help in.

Anyway, lets get to the point. I've been in the market (about three weeks) for an engagement ring! I'm excited for finding the right one, but I am also being patient. This is the first time making a purchase like this and I just want to make sure I am getting the right one for her and I. We've been together for awhile now and since I couldn't leave where I am working, she moved (300mi+) and left a good job to be near me...so I really want to get something great for her.

A bit on my girlfriend's taste that I've been able to get from her friends: She likes round diamonds and halo settings. She prefers something that's more of simple/elegant to gaudy. With that, I've been trying to stick to diamonds between .60 and .70. I'm hoping that size will be a good fit. Considering that I'm looking at "smaller" stones, I'd like the diamond to really shine (fire/brilliance) to make up for what the stone lacks in size.

Since starting, I've been dealing with a local jeweler that has been really nice and convenient, yet they haven't really found anything that has made me want to purchase. I've told them my priorities are, in order of importance: Cut, color, clarity and carat. The one diamond they did find that wowed me, was snatched up so I missed out on that. We've gone back and forth and they recently found a diamond that I has held my interest, yet I still have reservations on.

Here is the EGL report on said diamond: http://www.eglusa.com/verify-a-report-results/?st_num=911490969D

Looking at vendors here though, I've found this diamond that really has me floored: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3114492.htm

I plugged both into the HCA and they came up with scores of 4.1 & 1.3 respectively.

Budget wise, I am trying to stick to no more than $3500 for diamond & setting.

The price for diamond + setting with my local jeweler is within my budget, but I feel like I can do better. I do have they looking still and as I said I am not in a rush with this. With that said, I am looking to propose before the first week of November.

Any advice/opinions you all may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You need to stick with ideal/excellent cuts if its in your budget. That ACA should be amazing.

Does WF have a halo that will still fit in your budget?

No on EGL. GIA and AGS only. The ACA is a great choice. Buy that.

She'd rock that ACA. :appl:

Thanks for the replys guys! I agree that ACA is just awesome compared to what the local jeweler has shown me.

So what would be the next step, just place in cart and checkout? Seems to easy  Has anyone dealt with Whiteflash? They posted the IS, Sarin and ASET reports, but is there anything else I should ask for prior to buying?

I'm currently working with WhiteFlash as I sent back a (gorgeous) ES stone for an ACA stone. I honestly have never dealt with a company (in any trade) with better customer service. Mr. Boyne and Becca have been fabulous to work with and have both gone out of their way to provide exceptional service.

I noticed in the lab report that pretty much all the inclusions on that stone are directly under the table. I would ask if the crystals in that stone are clear (vs. black) and if eye-clean (to whatever your standards may be). Regardless, it's an ACA and will be stunning.
