Hey,

Some of you have read my previous posts about searching for a diamond. I had never seen a ideal cut, AGS Ideal 0, in person so I made it a point to go to Jared to look for myself. I am totally shocked at the difference. The light was flashing all over the place off the diamond. Looked much better than the IGI graded diamond that had good cut/good symmetry. I think I''m going to go with an ideal.

I also went to the jeweler near me and he had a GIA I color stone. I had been wondering about an I colored stone but I did not know. I compared it to an F color stone and while I could see the tint while they were on a white backround when they were face up I could not tell the difference. I think I might have finally been able to make a decision.

I also looked at the I colored stone in a 6 prong setting to see how much of the diamond would be covered and I think it is going to look great. The stone that I am going to purchase is a VS2 so I''m pretty sure I won''t see any inclusions and with the ideal cut the color won''t be noticeable as much either.

Anyone have any thoughts or concerns on what I''ve discovered?

Brett

Only that you will love a well cut ''I'' stone. It presents a great value and is far from being "yellow".

And I''m not surprised that you discovered how much better a well cut stone performs against an average one, we all have had that revelation!

Here is the link to the stone. I have mentioned it before, but just for those new to my situation.

I just bought an ags 0/IDeal/Ideal "000" J color (VS1) and haven''t seen it yet, but am dying to!!! There is a post with J color diamonds that have the photos and they face up white (search for J diamonds, dont'' know how to give you the link). I was sent photos of another one I wanted to buy that was a J hearts and arrows ideal and it had the idealscope photo as well, both amazing. Apparently with such well cut diamonds the color faces up white. From the side you can apparently see the slight faint yellow. I haven''t figured out yet wheather white gold, platinum, or yellow gold is best for setting this range of color diamond because I have read conflicting things about it.

Hey,

I''m kind of in the same boat as you. I just found a GIA 2ct. round I SI1 and I''m concerned about the yellow tint that may be visible when it''s set in platinum. The stone is an ideal cut, excellent polish and v-good symmetry, no cutlet or fluor, med to thick girdle, depth 62.5, table 60.0 & 7.96 x 8.01 x 4.99mm. Being a first time diamond buyer, I''m finding myself at a loss even though I''ve been doing my research. Can anyone share some advice on the diamond I''ve described above The jeweler is asking $15,000 for it. I looked at it through a 10x loop and it is as clear as day, with only one small inclusion on the outer edge of it. In comparison to the prices I''ve seen on the net, it seems to be a decent deal? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

With a 60% table, that stone isn't technically an ideal cut. It's a good price for a 2 ct, but the measurements suggest it is very deep. A well-cut 2 carat should be about 8.2mm. Is it actually 2 cts or a bit under? That would make more sense. Any other info you can provide?

Ditto on the loss of diameter...that 2c looks smaller than a well-cut 2c would.

Thanks for the information. The GIA cert says it's a 2.00ct. The girdle is actually thick to slightly thick. I plan on going back to the jeweler this weekend to take another look and to get more details. I also have a few more appointments this weekend with some recommended jewelers, hopefully I'll find something nice. Any opinions on the I color showing slight yellow when it's set in platinum? Any suggestions for purchasing a round 2ct. on a 14k budget?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Brett! I was wondering how you were coming along. I hope the BN stone is everything you are looking for and more, and PLEASE remember to post pics when all is said and done! (will you be sending it to an appraiser first?)
