Hi, I forgot to mention this..

I understand that you are looking for a 5 carater. You might want to speak to Bonne and give her the specs you want and ask for a quote. Canary''s prices are quite good and they are one reason why I don''t purchase over the internet.
Thanks. I think I might just mention it in passing only. I won''t be able to buy it for quite a while yet and wouldn''t want them to search for one for me right away.

Anyway, how competitive are their prices and the cut of their RB''s? I was thinking of going back to BGD or JA when the time comes (btw, for anyone who might be interested, I''ve spoken to Jim recently and have also apologized for my previous thread which is now deleted. I really didn''t mean to harm JA''s or Jim''s name. He''s a real gentleman and I appreciate our biz relationship).
Hi, they are very competitive. Most of the RBs are GIA excellent cut diamonds but of course, I would still use the cut advisor to help me choose. They can easily source for any kind of diamonds, any size as they have an excellent client base and their gems turnover very quickly. So cutters are very willing to supply to them. My sister in law was just shopping for diamonds and I compared prices from Canary with those on Whiteflash, they were cheaper than Whiteflash if you consider the shipping plus GST plus charges incurred on foreign currency transactions. No harm asking them to quote when the time comes as they can easily sell the 5 carater with their client base if you don''t want them. Talking about that, I recently saw a 10ct marquise, 6 carat cushion and 8 carat square I think, they are all gone!

Oh lvnut, I meant to ask you also, who did you use to halo yr GORGEOUS 4ct RB? Was the price quite reasonable, if you don''t mind my asking? There are so many beautiful halo''s on here and yours and Beacon''s definitely come to mind. I was thinking I could have my 3ct halo''ed for the time being, to try and tame the DSS demon for a while, until her big sister comes

Phoenix - I used a very small local jeweler. He is a friend of mine and it''s a very small shop. They do have a storefront (that''s where my new earrings came from!) but it''s only three of them and most of their work is custom and repairs. The price was reasonable especially when I realized I had an old ring I wasn''t wearing and he was able to use some of my diamonds from that ring!

I''m not sure if you remember my thread from about three years ago when I got my first halo setting. Just like you, I was having major DSS! I had my 4.19 RB for about ten years and made the very large mistake of trying on and falling in love with a 7.01 carat RB. Not in the budget at all! A couple of months later, I was at the jewelers picking up a watch that had been repaired and I spotted a gorgeous large RB that I thought looked about 7 carats - of course I had to try it on. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was a 5 carat and it was the halo that made it look so much bigger!

So I decided to set my ring exactly like what they had in the store. It was micropave and sat very low. There is a whole thread on it somewhere - maybe I can find the link. I loved it and it really did make the diamond seem much larger. The only thing that bothered me about it was when I was wearing it with my other rings that all have halos I noticed that because the pave diamonds were so small (I think they were 1/2 pointers - not sure because the appraisal was kind of vague and just specified "micropave setting") they really needed to be in brighter light to look sparkle the most.

The following year we went to Vegas and I found a ring with larger diamonds in the halo and decided I would really like that better. It also had a split shank which the original halo did not. So my husband drew everything up, we got all the stats we needed and started the process. Of course I changed my mind several times on the size of the diamonds in the halo and added some diamonds on the side view of the halo and a few other things.

The reason I am telling you all of this is that my DSS is cured! I also set about on a little project for you today. I went to my jeweler and had him do the measurements of the old ring vs. the new ring and I had him take a couple of pics of them next to each other (although there is a large gaping hole in the old ring where my diamond used to be!)

The width of the top of the old halo ring was 14.0 mm. and the width of the halo not including my stone was 2.0 mm.

The width of the new ring is 15.7 mm and the width of the halo is 2.7 mm.

I hope this helps you! And by the way - we could probably share clothes too since we are so close in size (I''m a whole 1 1/2 taller!)

Hi, I will call her to ask her to quote a good price. Generally regulars and recommended customers get a slightly better quote than a walk in (or rather, call in in your case). Hope it will help.

Hi there SS, I called Bonne again today and she gave me a quote of SGD2,800 for a double row of halo''s of 1 pointers and also white melee on the band. Does that sound reasonable to you?

I also enquired about setting a gemstone (though I haven''t quite decided yet which one to go for) with an approx dimensions of 10x8 (or sthg like that, I really can''t remember what I told her). I said I''d like to give them my existing 4 pointers for the band and she said she''d do the halo with 3 pointers and the quote for that is SGD1,700.

Thanks for calling Bonne to ask her for a good price, and thank you very much for everything you''ve done.

I also wanted to mentioned that the diamonds in my new halo are 3 pointers - maybe use them to cure your DSS on your RB?

This is the other shot - hope it works this time!
