Finally, my dream Spess, now how to set it?

So in the past few months, I must have bought and returned a dozen spess, all advertised as "pure orange", but always seemed too yellow or brown or red to me.
Anyways, I read a thread by gene where he was trying to figure out a nice iphone set up for picture taking, and I loved the orange stone he was using as an example. I emailed him to see if it was a spess and if it was available, and it was! So I called dibs on it, and now it's finally here! Haha, I haven't been able to nab one of gene's beauties in ages, but I'm glad that when I did it was this one!

Now, setting ideas? It's by far my largest CS at 9mm. It's 4.1 cts. mmmm...so orange
Pardon the quick iphone pics, will post proper photos later, but wanted to start brainstorming! These photos don't really do it justice.

this stone stand on it's own and imo does not require a lot to gussy it up...meaning I really hope and pray you do not halo it.

I was also lucky enough to nab MT's spess ring. LOVE it. The colors are very similar, though gene's a brighter and more pure orange I'd say. Even if the photos don't show it.

no halo for me :)

My vote : )

White metal and diamonds...no halo! Like was already said, this stone is large enough to stand on it's own, a halo would only serve as a distraction. However some diamond melee's here and there as an accent can never hurt.

That is o.r.a.n.g.e.! Great eye & assertiveness, to spot it & quickly snap it up. It's a beauty! I say, something that doesn't interfere at all with the spess & maybe wg or platinum so as to let that gorgeous orangeness shine on its own. I'd go so far as to hope you do prongs, no bezel, so as not to detract at all.

Oh man, yum!

Simple 22k bezel setting gets my vote!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! :appl:

depending on the setting and width of the shank some smattering of diamonds might not be bad....

a solitaire in a white setting would be unusual and also gorgeous!

but, alas, I have a fondness for 22 karat gold with spess..........

however, I also think something like this has potential:

My two favourites for a non-halo design. I prefer prong set for precision cut stones to better appreciate their gorgeous profiles.

I love orange and they both look pretty orange. That combo of Gene's cutting and that color is a knockout. Its a big honker, too!

This! It would be delicious.

How about a brushed 18k yellow gold solitaire? I think brushed/matte yellow gold is so pretty.

Congrats!

Gah so many choices!

I'm actually surprised at all the suggestions for white gold, would have thought everyone would go for yellow!

For those of you voting bezel, any ideas of the profile?

I personally wouldn't bezel it, as I really love the polished girdle on precision cut gems like Gene's.

Bezels are also so difficult to get right, and they put pressure on the gem, especially ones that have inclusions. I would double prong it since its a large stone, for security. I really like the Hunt Country ring that Chrono posted.

Yeah, I"m leaning towards a solitaire too.
Now it's a white v yellow, and if yellow, how yellow? lol.

Ooh gorgeous spess! Definitely prong setting and I second TL and Chrono on that Hunt setting. That would be TDF.

re the ring I posted: my thought is to modify it with an open pavilion but the stone bezeled to provide protection......and done in 18k gold.........brushed is an interesting idea.

the higher the karat the better, imo, when it comes to spess.....!
so, at a minimum: 18k gold.
if you go a higher karat gold the prongs will need to be 18k to hold the stone.
and your stone will be left more vulnerable to damage.....sigh.

you will need a very experienced WITH COLOR STONE SETTING bench person for this project.
setting a color stone is very different than setting a diamond!!!!!!!

Anyone have a link to kelpies hunt ring? I do like their style...

This may sound odd, but I've found that rose gold looks kind of cool with orange spess. I'll attach a not very good pic of mine with a peachy rose gold halo.

I chose yellow for mine. White gold prongs.

For such a bold and huge stone, I'll go for some drama at the sides or profile by adding a playful touch of vivid green or yellow little gemstones to bring up the colour even more.

Have an enjoyable time creating!

spess loves drama! :appl:
and so do I!!!

Yellow gold prongs, white metal shank to make the color pop against the shank.

I'm another vote for 18k yellow gold though I do like what Kelpie has done with ...what? unplated WG or titanium? Interesting profile too.

It's WG.

LOOOOOOVE your stone! :appl:

Mine is not the orangest of all the orange or the Mack daddy of all spess, but I think it looks smashing in its white gold bezel:
