I had a very good experience buying in the diamond district. Key is to find someone "upstairs" with a very good reputation (i.e., a referral from someone you trust). I was looking for Asschers and found two amazing stones. Went with the slightly larger one, but had such a good experience with the guy who had the other stone that I wish I could''ve gotten it from him. If you are in the market for a 1.52ct, F, VS1 with great proportions, let me know...I know a guy.

And my belated thanks to everyone here for the advice and knowledge. Couldnt have done it without you (Karl especially).

I know when I decide to upgrade to a 6ct-8ct asscher WF is the where I will go to get it. I trust them, love doing business with them, and I know they would be able to get in a killer stone for me.

I think some people also mentioned good experiences with David S (www.davidsdiamonds.com). I mentioned it a few times before but the NYC Diamond District floor level vendors scare me! I feel like I am being mobbed and I dare not ask any questions.

I think there are common suppliers but each vendor has different relationships with suppliers. Some vendors will have more pull based on their reputation. After all, don't you rather deal with people you trust and know can make the sale?

Its good that you have a personal experience to go along with that statement and of course that is your opinion. I sometimes feel bad though that people pigeon hole him just for cushions because he does have access to other stones. I actually found him to be eductated in all the areas that you stated he was not on Emeralds when I went to visit him in person. So, my experience is exactly the opposite. We have all seen great stones come out of GOG so I won''t dissagree with that.
