Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow!

I have narrowed my search to two diamonds. Both are 1.25 RB G ACA diamonds. One is an SI1 and the other is a VS2. I shipped the SI1 to a 3rd party appraiser and I get to finally see one of the beauties tomorrow afternoon! I shipped the SI1 assuming that if for some reason I didn't like the clarity, then I would go with the VS2. If it indeed eye clean and I am happy with it, I will go with the SI1.

I am hoping these diamonds are all I have been reading about! A while back my GF fell in love with a HoF diamond, and I am hoping the ACA stacks up favorably. Excited to finally see what I have been researching about for months!

I am sure you are going to blown away with the performance of the ACA!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

If she liked HoF, then she is certain to like an ACA!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

Get some pictures if you can . . .

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

I will be sure to take pics. They will have to be iPhone pics though since my girlfriend is borrowing my camera:( and she said she needed it for a few weeks and I'm not sure how to get it back without being obvious!

I am very confident these will live up to their hype! I just can't wait to see it!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

I am back from my 3 hour (round trip) drive to see the diamond at a third party appraiser, and boy was it WORTH the trip! When I first saw the diamond, I was really impressed and could tell the cut was off the charts. Easily as good as the HoF diamond that I saw (the one that got me all excited about CUT in the first place, but too expensive)....maybe even better. The be honest, it was hard to tell for sure because I saw the HoF in a B&M with all the "proper" lighting so it was hard to compare. I tucked the diamond under the table into low lighting and the contrast was just really impressive. The gemologist worked out of his home so the lighting was just your basic lighting you might have around your home. I asked to take it outside and my jaw about hit the ground! That is where I was completely blown away. I felt a little weird because I think I let out a few choice curse words :naughty:

The dispersion and fire were EVERYTHING you guys have been talking about and for so much less $ than the HoF. The scintillation was just unreal. I literally stared at it for almost an hour. I was starting to feel like I was wearing out my welcome :) I would really like to see how an ACA compares in the store lighting. Now THAT would be something! I will definitely say that I give the ACA's my highest recommendation. They truly are top notch. It sure is something to be a guy who knew nothing about diamonds, to become a research-a-holic and finally seeing where all that research gets you. I am so glad I happened upon this site and its vendors. I was really hoping to compare Wink's Crafted by Infinity but they have nothing in the size (1.25+) I am looking for.

The SI1 had a white feather in the middle of the table. I for the life of me could not see it with my naked it from the table up position. I could see it when viewed through the pavilion but will never see that.

Now I need to decide if I want to go for the "mind clean" of this VS2 for the extra $1600 or use that same money to go larger in an SI1. Not really sure what to do since I am a "mind clean" type of person but COULD NOT see the inclusion unless magnified.

Last but not least, I took a few photos as promised and a few videos. Sorry it was my iPhone so the pics aren't the best. Don't mind the commentary, one of the gemologists neighbors stopped by ;)

How much more in size will the $1600 get you?

Unfortunately they don't have anything larger than 1.25 right now in ACA and SI1. If they did, from what I recall that extra $1600 will get me from 1.25 to a about 1.4 Carats. Do you know if I can request one made? I can ask my WF rep I suppose.....

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

No, you can request that they make you a diamond in a certain size, color, and clarity. But you can ask them when their next shipment of diamonds is coming in!

How is the diamond going to be set? Unless it is going to be in a very enclosed setting like a bezel, it would make me crazy seeing an inclusion from the side. I would much rather have a VS2 if the SI1 is not 100% eyeclean from every direction.

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

Rest assured, no diamonds look gaudy when worn well! My ering is a 1.7 in a halo, and I just got a 10mm, 4.5 ct cushion -- they both look lovely on my size 3.25 finger. :halo: You should ask your girlfriend if she'd like the money to go towards higher clarity, bigger size, or into the bank as savings. She's the one wearing the ring!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

I have a 1.22 ct G SI1 Brian Gavin and I think the color and clarity combo is lovely. At this carat size it's not hard to find a nice SI1 that's totally eye clean. I don't have mind clean issues so a good SI1 is my sweet spot as it's often eye clean and budget friendly. I can see the feather in the magnified image though so I don't know how that shows up in real life. But best of luck!

I got it out of her. She would rather have a VS2 than size. Good idea asking. I'm glad I did. I had to play it slick because we went looking about 5 months ago, and I haven't brought up rings in a few months as I don't want her to suspect that it is near.

Excellent! Good thing you asked :) I saw the setting you are considering, is that the setting she chose or hinted at?

That is the setting she likes. When we first started looking, we did what most couples do and started at a high end B&M. She knew as little as I did about diamonds. I asked if she had heard of HoF and she had not. I had heard of it because of ads and a friend of mine got his Fiancee one (very small but even as a guy I could tell it sparkled like crazy). So we looked and nothing else looked as good and we kept coming back to HoF. It was waaaay overpriced and I knew I could spend more wisely. She didn't care about size, and all I could afford in HoF was .75 Carats. I care about quality but set out to get similar quality and a larger carat size for the same the 75 pointer cost at HoF.

I had heard of Blue Nile and had friends that used them so like most I started there. My research eventually led me here.

She absolutely fell in love with the HoF halo. She says it doesn't need to be that exact one, but that is the style. I wanted to go custom anyways to make it that much more special. Had I had the $22k (yikes!) to put down on the full blown 1Carat HoF, I still knew it was overpriced. I am now going to get a custom ring done by WF with a few minor tweaks. Rather than the .75C she fell in love with or the $22k 1 Carat that was too out of reach, I am going to be getting 1.25 Carats for $8k+ less ($9k if you include tax!) And that is VS2 clarity vs. the SI1 in the HoF :)

The last she knew, I was researching online for better deals. She was quite impressed that I was taking it so seriously. She has no idea I have been researching almost every night for 5 months now :appl:

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

You are going to make a great husband! :appl:

You are exactly right that with a halo you are fine with a 1.25 and VS2 is great! I am glad you are having WF make you a halo setting because I have seen some with better proportions than that HoF setting. The halo diamonds look better when they are smaller than that, in my opinion. You want your center stone to be the star and have it encircled with sparkly border as opposed to having a big cluster ring. Have they done the CADS yet? because we can show you some beautiful halos if you haven't finalized the setting.

Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it very much!

I am a car designer by trade so my designer eye was picking up on the ill-proportioned halo stones. She thought I was being too critical until I explained it to her, and then it bothered her too. I felt that with the halo diamonds being so large, it swallowed up the center diamond and it looked like costume jewelry from far away. I wanted to have the center diamond grow (and be the star as you said) and the halo diamonds shrink accordingly. The savings in the melee diamonds would in theory pay for some of the center diamond growing in size. Do you think that 1.25 Carats is big enough to overcome those halo diamonds? It is 7mm in diameter vs 6.4mm. Not sure that will give me the look I am going for.

They have NOT started the CAD yet as I have not firmly decided on a center stone yet. I would love to see any suggestions you guys have! I don't like the Pave settings because of the look that the diamonds are sitting on a "plate" (hope I am not confusing Pave with something else). I like the "basket" look.

Thanks!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

Decided I am going to go with the VS2!!!!! Very excited. WF was able to work out a deal on both the setting and the stone so the price difference was only $1300. I have a few more weeks to give any input before they start the CAD.

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

I loved your videos! I think the size you are getting will look wonderful in a Halo. Can't wait to see pics of the finished product.

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

Beautiful diamond!

Re: Finally going to see a WF ACA diamond in person tomorrow

Hoping that you went with the VS....she is one lucky girl can't wait for CAD photos and the final product.
