Final Three Diamonds - Help - Thanks

Ok folks.

I''ve narrowed it down to three diamonds. I was hoping to add to the discussion and get a bit of insight by getting your opinions.

The stone will be in a custom made simple full bezel set plat ring.

If you could give some more info, like the angles, that would help.

I suppose (purely bases upon experience, and not on info) that the first stone has a pavilion angle of ''rounded'' 40.4 or possibly even 40.6, and with a specific crown angle, this would lead to a GIA-grade of VG, while you still have a fantastic HCA-score.

If you have little variation (especially in the pavilion angle), that stone would be my personal favourite.

But like I said before, this is based upon experience. Something like in Flanders, when you do not know the address of the busiest pub, I would go to the church, and that particular pub is probably right across the church.

There is no such thing as a GIA Ideal-grade. Excellent is the highest grade given by GIA.

which one are you talking about?

.74 E is Excellent on report but Ideal on website

.78 F is Very Good on report but Ideal on website

.78 E is Excellent on report not on a website

I understand that the websites use Ideal as the search term but GIA uses something different. It feels odd to purchase a Very Good, even if the HCA is outstanding, when I''ve been exculsively looking at Excellent cuts from day one. Stupid basis or smart flag?

Without going into more detail, the stone getting a GIA VG-grade, would probably get an AGS-Ideal grade.

You have to see what you feel most comfortable with. If all three stones are cut with high 3D-symmetry, I would definitely prefer number 1.

How do I find out if this process was used?

How do I encourage more folks to pip in and give an opinion about my stones?

It all depends on what you exactly want to know:

Is it if any of the three stones are likely to be of high to very high cut-quality? In that case, the answer is yes on all three.

Do you want to know which one is best? They are so close to eachother that one would need to go into more detail. The first question is whether you really need that more detail. You seemed to have made a great choice, and we do not know whether you are happy with a top-stone, or whether you really want the top of the tops.

In the latter case, you would need to get even more info, like an idealscope-pic, hearts-and-arrows and a full 3D-measurement of the stone. If you really think that you want to go into that level of detail, you will unfortunately find that few vendors can offer that information.

It is basically up to you to decide. With your current selection, you seem to have chosen very nice stones, that are hard to differentiate on the info available. So, you can be happy, and move on.

But that could just as well bother you, and then, the whole selection-story only begins.

This process can really become overwhelming. At some point, you need to pause and remember what it is all about...

I have decided on the second one - EVs2.74. That is what she''ll want. Funny, I looked back at my notes from months ago, the first baby steps in understanding the Cs. It reminded me of my gut feelings.
