I''m a few days away from buying an e-ring and started out as a person who thought VS1 was the lowest clarity I would go for. After many months of research two of my final candidates stones are SI1 (one AGS and one GIA). I''ve learned that a eye clear SI1 seems to be popular with many on this board and many others in conversations. Though I don''t have buyers concern I do want to ask this board for any final suggestion on final SI1 questions to ask the jewler prior to buying. The stones are eye clean and the inclusions are on the side when viewed under a loop and microscope. I''m a very detailed oriented person (that is sometimes good / sometimes bad) and I want to make sure I''ve asked all the right questions. Thanks for any tips.

Are you going to buy the diamond loose? If so once you get it and inspect it then you can decide whether or not it is to your liking.

I agree with "lmurden". Once you have a look at the diamond you''ll know if it''s the diamond for you. If the inclusions can''t be seen with the naked eye and you like the over all quality of the diamond than I''m sure you''ll be pleased. Good luck.

As long as it''s clean to your eyes, no worries.

I typically like to know what kind of inclusions they are (crystals, pinpoints, feathers, etc). Are they dark inclusions or white inclusions? Do any of the inclusions break the surface of the diamond? Are they prongable?

I have an SI2 stone....COMPLETELY eyeclean because they are wispy, white inclusions and some pinpoints.

CJ,

Good advice above.

Many find that the eye clean SI is a great value.

One more thought if you haven''t already done it: View the diamonds in several lighting conditions to see if they are as eye-clean in diffuse or soft light as they are in direct light... You don''t want to get one home and have something ''suddenly'' appear.

I hear what you''re saying about ''detail-oriented.'' When I first purchased my car I obsessed about the smallest things each day: I would obsessively chamois it every night to erase any stray mote of dust that dared settle on its hood. Of course now...after a little time...I''m much more relaxed...

...sometimes I let it go for 3 nights

Thanks for the feedback. I do plan to view the loose stones under various light conditions (flourescent, normal, low light and outdoors). The particular stone specifics are in the separate message "Advise Requested for 2 Stones". Thanks again for the feedback and comments.

Chipper thanks for the link and info. I too agree that SI1 is offering more for my budget. I think the advice from other concerning SI1s have been helpful.

The stones in your link sound very nice.

My center stone is SI1 and totally eye clean. I was very hung up on this issue after reading these forums! The conclusion I finally came to, which makes me feel much better, is that in real life nobody is really going to come up to me at a cocktail party with a loupe and check for inclusions! That''s the way I convinced myself that I really didn''t have to get a VVS or even VS stone. And I think in the end, that''s what really matters, as long as your naked eye can''t see anything.

I''ll take the good advice previously stated a step further --
My stone is SI2 (gasp! Couldn''t believe I''d ever go that low) and is a relatively large stone (3.29) where you''d "see" more.
Can''t see ANYTHING when I''m wearing that baby! Sure, take out a loupe and it is SCARY, but just wearing the rock on my finger day in and day out, and all you see is the fire, brilliance and scintillation.
Also, my stone is NOT a H & A, thus the facets are all in a random pattern (which I like), and maybe that helps conceal inclusions???
Also important to note that my mother-in-law has a 5 carat radiant, GIA D color but also SI2 -- there is a black inclusion in the table -- despite that huge rock, no one sees it.
Thus, I think you will be fine w/ SI1, and you will be getting a great value.

Thanks to all for the feedback. To answer the questions asked by some.... I haven''t seen the stone yet going to the jeweler next week. He did indicate the inclusions are of the crystal and needle variety. He said the largest inclusion (which he indicated was small) is near the end of the table and able to cover with a prong. The other inclusions appear to be under the table but he mentioned they are low in the stone.

The only question I have on the stone if the measurement 7.34 x 7.41 x 4.56. Is this outside of the normal shape for a round?
