OEC is Old European Cut. It is the forerunner of the modern round brilliant. It has the same number of facets, but with different proportions--slightly deeper, higher crown, small table, short lower halves, larger culet. I don't know what tweaks Jon made to the original to get his new version.

The OEC is a round, while OMC's are a cushion shape. The orginal old mine cuts were first, developed into the OEC and then into the modern round.

I'm hoping that Jon will create a category on the website for the new OEC's, just like he did for his new signature chunky cushions.

Yep ... 4th prototype and we''ve eliminated much of the darkness we were seeing in diffuse lighting as well as increasing fire/sparkle under the table. We''re really excited to move forward with this. The first prototype is by no means an ugly diamond but we wanted to really try to get the most out of it before beginning production. The bold flashes in these are really something to behold. Glad you like.

Contemplating. Miss ellen who frequents these boards takes some credit for the name of the line for the Signature Cushions. I liked and wanted to use the word "vintage" and she came up with "august".

August = "Inspiring awe or admiration; majestic: the august presence of the monarch."
Vintage = "representing the high quality of a past time: vintage cars; vintage movies..."

Anyhow ... I''m thinking of either incorporating these OEC''s into this somehow *or* since this is following after the thinking of Henry Morse and the original American Ideal Cut perhaps along these lines. There will definitely be a distinct category for them though.

FINALLY an updated video! For a few weeks after visiting GOG and checking out the prototype in person, I''ve been checking Jon''s youtube & vimeo accounts almost daily. I checked this morning and almost made a post before finding this thread with a search.

Looks great & can''t wait to see the production!

IMO, I like August Vintage OECs. It''s good to build the existing brand name too.

I purchased the original 1st prototype from Jonathan and all that I can say is WOW! It is absolutely beautiful and something special !!!!! So I can only imagine that this most recent prototype is something special as well !!!!!! Jonathan really knows his stuff !!!!!

I sent mine off to 23 Street Jewelers where I have worked with Diane one of the owners. They are great to work with and I should be seeing my new ring soon !!!!! She and her staff were quite impressed with this fine stone that Jonathan has created!!!!!
