Hello All,

Long time reader and first time poster. I have been reading these boards for 6 plus months getting as much of an education as possible about the many characteristics of diamonds. This is an awesome community and it has provided me a wealth of knowledge regarding diamonds.

I am finally pulling the trigger on a center stone for the setting I'm having made for the engagement ring. I figure I can rely on the PS community to steer me in the right direction. I'm looking for a good performer for light refraction, brilliance, fire and scintillation. The stone my jeweler has shown me is as follows:

GIA cert, VS1, I , XXX

Inclusions- internal graining

62.7% depth, 55% table, 36.5° crown angle, 40.6° pavilion angle
HCA Score - 2.4 (all very good)

It does have a sparkle but what stone doesn't under the LEDs. Any thought on proportions and cut effecting performance? My other concern is the internal graining, which is the only inclusion listed on the GIA cert. I have not seen it in sunlight, only the showroom LEDs. Whats the likelyhood of poor performance and haziness because of the graining?

Thanks in Advance

Well, that stone isn't one we would usually recommend. Depth should be no greater than 62.3%. Deeper stones may face up smaller in diameter. You need to list diameter for us to know. And I'll have to say, a 36.5 crown angle with a 40.6 pav angle would absolutely have to have an idealscope image for me to consider it, because there is a possibility of leakage. If you don't have access to an idealscope image, I strongly suggest staying below 2.0 on your HCA score. Stick with 34-35.0 for crown angle and 40.6-41.0 for pav angle. You want your HCA score to say Excellent on the first three items and very good for spread.

No issues with VS1 on clarity, though. I'd keep looking for a stone. How much were they asking?

I did see it under an ideal scope. There is most certainly leakage around the perimeter of the stone. its a .71 and they are asking 2080. I left the GIA report at work so I will definitely post it tomorrow

It is hard for me to know what that looks like and whether it is a problem. I was thinking leakage in a ring in the interior. What is the diameter?

Okay, just post diameter tomorrow. But I think you can do better on the cut.

Thanks for the input. I will post the full GIA report in the morning. I will ask the jeweler if he can provide an aset or ideal scope image.
