With much help from Gypsy and fellow members I have narrowed the search down to the 2 stones above.

I have someone in the US that I can ship too and then pick up from - hence not needing to pay the 20% + import tax etc.

FYI same stones in the UK from BN are the same price in British Pounds.

I am siding towards the 1.7 carat but want to know what you guys think?

Also is there anything I should be asking BN for before committing? I have asked for pics of the actual stone already?

Thanks again

I would go for 1.57 in thos case. I did not note feather on tip of corner on 1.7 (you really have to magnify it to see it with my eyesight).

It's a lovely stone and I hope you like it when you get it.

Actually....

BN isn't essential now that I have a US address to ship to..... good point - I'll take a look at the Jamesallen ones too.

Both nice stones and the 1.69 is cheaper than the BN stones and looks cleaner.

I'll ask for an ASET image.

Now for the setting...

Knife edged or comfort.....

Have asked for an ASET image but the stone isn't in NY.

They're doing to try and get one for me - I have held it.

Looks like a great find Gypsy! Thank you

We’ve received the ASET image for diamond 685137, which you’ll find attached to this email. The image looks fantastic, with red and green dominating the image. In addition to being bright, this diamond is white in color and completely eye clean. I’m sure you’ll be very pleased when you see it in person.

This is the ASETimage from JA - thoughts please? Looking to purchase in next 24 hours!

Thanks

Buy it now! For the price and size, and comparing it to others, its just right.

Don't think I would call it 'not needing', that is illegal and fraud to do such a thing. In the past posters have said that the HM Revenue actually watches these boards and if you are caught you will get a heavy fine and your stone will be taken off you.

Hardly seems fair, when honest law abiding people are paying this VAT and import charges that some who defraud the system get theirs at a much cheaper price.

Gypsy - thankyou.

I know she likes the look of this

https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-7028

Do you think that would work as a setting?

Pyramid - I wouldn't say it's not 'fair' at all.

Entitled to your opinion, of course. But that is a potential option for me.

Timing wise however it may still not work so I'll need to factor in duty costs as well.

Is there any way to lessen the tax in a legitimate way?

Only hesitation is that the knife edge isn't very comfortable to wear for some people. Still, it is very cost effective and it allows a flush fit band, and is a simple look that will let the stone be the star.

Thanks Gypsy - I'll take a closer look at that setting again now.

I'm due in the US in a few weeks so may actually look at this in the flesh if still available.

So, stone is reserved but they cant guarantee delivery for end of August which is a non-negotiable for me.

What are your thoughts on ordering the stone separately which will be delivered in time and then getting the stone set elsewhere?

It's possible.

Where would you get it set?

You could have IDJ see if they can get the stone for you, they would have settings on site or ones they could get quickly.

That's probably the first call I would make. See if IDJ can get you the stone and set it for you in time.
