Hi all, i know that for an FIC, the crown angle needs to be 35.5 and above, but is there a limit to the table percentage? What is the largest a table percentage can maintain in order to still be an fiery ideal, say in a stone with a crown angle of 36%?

LOL! The HCA will tell you if the stone falls within FIC/ BIC/ TIC range. The IS images will give you some idea whether there is any light leakage of the stone but the final decision comes down to your own eyes and tastes, also remember that the visual differences between FIC, BIC, TIC are subtle and not something that will jump out at you. If you can get a good return policy then that would give you the opportunity to view it yourself and see if this is the right diamond for you.Date: 3/5/2010 10:58:30 AM

thank you lorelai.. i'm comparing the idealscope images but i'm not quite sure if it is indeed an FIC or at least close to it right now. i wish there was a sort of (free) calculator that would let you know after punching in some more numbers. perhaps garry's next project? haha...
Yes if you reduce the pavilion angle the stone scores within FIC range. The steeper crown might enhance fire a little, also the IS checks out well so it is a definite contender. Ask one of the gemologists to discuss the stone with you and the various performance nuances, that should give you a better idea.Date: 3/8/2010 1:40:48 PM

sure, for some reason i can''t upload the idealscope again, so here''s the link to the forum with the posted idealscope-

PROPORTIONS:
table- 56%
depth- 61.9%
crown angle- 36
pav. angle- 40.8
HCA gives it a 3.5, but garry says that after looking at the idealscope, it might be painted ever so slightly as to reduce light leakage. but when i give it a tiny variance with GIA''s rounding figures, it becomes an FIC... and the stone does have a bit more fire than brilliance
