I just purchased this ring from Bluenile, and wanted to get everyone''s thoughts on this. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

GIA
1.49 CT
E Color
Internally Flawless
Excellent Cut
Excellent Polish
Excellent Symmetry
Fluorescence - None
Comments: Minor details of polish are not shown

Thin to slighly thick faceted
Table - 58%
Depth - 61.2%
Crown Angle - 35
Pavilion Angle - 41
Culet - None

It gets a score of 2.4 from the HCA.

HCA is touted here as a rejection tool.

Personally, I'd reject anything with a score over 2.0 regardless of price.

I'd return it during your return period and learn more before buying.

Why pay for such high color and clarity when the cut is subpar?

Cut is MORE important than clarity or color to the beauty of a diamond.

Hi bluewater

I take it E IF is your preference? Just to mention you can lower both colour and clarity if you wish and still have a great looking diamond, but this is of course only a suggestion! Can you also post the diameter measurement, girdle thickness, star and lower girdle facet percentages too please?

The diamond has possibilities but the concern is the angle range 35/41 is entering what we call the steep deep zone, there is a possibility there could be light leakage or not, as GIA round these numbers. An Idealscope image would help but BN do not supply them. All you can do is to order the diamond if you really want this one and check it out for yourself. Look for a dark ring around the table or dark patches - or better yet if you order the stone ask an independant appraiser who is skilled in evaluating cut to look at it for you. Here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

I have a question for Lorelei on behalf of OP and myself. Do you think the OP can purchase an ASET scope or Idealscope to check the stone herself/himself quickly without having to go through an appraiser first? I mean sort of a screen.

Yes absolutely, I could have actually suggested this in fact, here is the link. http://www.ideal-scope.com/cart_zoom_item.asp?Id=2&ShowAdd=Y

I tend to find some like the idea and others don't - it depends on whether they are confident in evaluating the diamond themselves. IS are easy to use but I find at times that some still aren't confident, hence the appraiser suggestion. Also with diamonds which are not in house I often think an appraisal is prudent anyway and the appraiser can also evaluate the cut, but it depends on comfort levels and preferences.

This page explains their use and how to interpret the images

Really what I would suggest is to purchase an ASET scope, these can be used on fancy shape diamonds too and also show the quality of the light return as well as light leakage so to my mind they are a bit more useful than IS. They are more expensive though.
