I can't post the report or upload so let me know your thoughts on these two RBs:

2.71 ct, H color, VS2, GIA xxx - $41k

61.6% depth, 57% table, 34° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1.5 - Excellent
within TIC range

3 ct, H color, SI1, GIA xxx - $45k

59% depth, 59.8% table, 33° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Excellent
Total Visual Performance 1.1 - Excellent
within TIC range

Both are pretty similiar priced. Both came under the 2 score on the HCA. The 2.7ct will appear like the 3ct, and probably can't tell the difference and is a higher clarity. The 3 is a lower clarity, and has a few twinning wisps in the middle and feather and crystal on the side. I was told the SI1 sell better and more than VS2 in this market. What is important to me is the wow factor. But at the same time, I look at it "what will appreciate and be in more demand in the future"? Will a VS2 be a better perceived asset than a SI1? Do people dislike SI1s? People on this forum have generally been very helpful, so two cents are welcome.

I like the depth and table on stone 1 better, jyeh. Are you buying from an actual store? I know at Asian jewelry shops they supposedly offer you 90% of what you paid if you bought from that particular jeweler; but usually that's only for high color and high clarity stones. They only factor in those two things, so like E VVS1/2.

If you're getting into the ranges of H, I and SI's then they won't even look at YOU, in my experience. Most snobby Asian jewelers give you dirty looks when you ask for anything below VVS2 in my experience. I've had some jewelers tell me "VS stones are dirty and SI's are worse/pathetic! Can't you just put out a few more thousand to get her a cleaner stone? Her MOM will be happy with you!" Asians, Vietnamese in particular, really value the clarity ON PAPER above all else. To hell with that sh!t, man!

But, if you buy from one of the vendors that has a 100% upgrade policy or the 70% buy back on that stone, then it really doesn't matter which stone you get cuz you'll either get 70% back or 100% upgrade. However, I hear buying a diamond as "an investment" isn't really a smart approach anyway. Try pushing an SI stone on someone...(that's not on this forum)

Regarding which is better...it's tough to assess on just numbers, and I'm only a novice at this "hobby"/passion so I'm learning (and enjoying) more and more each day from/on this forum. Have you seen any of these stones in real life? Can you post live pictures of the stones (EDIT: in addition to the report). I think if you insist on buying from a store/jeweler who doesn't have access to the Ideal Scope or ASET, then a quick $25 or $50 investment will be worth your while so you can better assess the stones, jyeh! :wavey: I feel if you have $40k to drop on a stone, it better be one hell of a stone (and I can see you're finding stones each day!). I think you'll get the "wow" factor simply from how big it is, but how it performs will be all the difference! =)

Plus, most people will tell you the same things based on the limited info you give. Numbers look good, it does good on the HCA...but you're missing a crucial bit of info: light performance.

SI stones arent' dirty. I think Asians just live in their own world. In the end of the day, its what makes most sense. And yes, a 3 ct VS2 stone starts around $60k, which I don't think is worth it. I'm trying to access whether its better to go 3 with Si1 or 2.7-2.8 with VS2. I will try to see if I can get a idealscope but I don't even know how to post pics or upload files.

I know most aren't, I'm just saying that's what snobby Asian jewelers have told me, like try to make me feel guilty for considering anything below VVS stones, dude. Not knocking on anyone who has one, so NO one should mis-interpret my words! Best believe!

To upload: you hit the icon with a diamond under "insert" in the post/thread section. Then you browse from your files, then save the image. Then click to upload. It's different than other sites.

I guess it really depends on the inclusions too. I've seen a dealer with a 3.x ct H SI1, and the inclusion was in the middle of the table, but it was a clear, long crystal. It was really noticeable though... Would you say you're more sensitive to finding things than she?
