Hi everyone,

I'm a new poster here, I've been pouring over this forum and have found lots of great advice and tons of information. After daily scouring of online diamonds, I've finally found one that spoke to me. I would really appreciate some feedback on this stone. It's got a rather long feather on the table but I honestly did not see it on the first view of the HD video. I'm waiting for a gemologist to review it and get back to me but am anxious for others with more experience than me to give opinions. It seems to be a great price for a True Hearts, F, 1 carat! What am I not seeing? It looks like an SI1 to me but is graded an SI2.

Looking forward to hearing back from you all, thanks!!

That's beautiful for an Si2!

That's what I thought too! The GIA report shows there are a number of very small inclusions which I think are feathers but I'm having a hard time seeing the plot clearly. So I am guessing that perhaps due to where they are, mostly around the girdle, that this is the reason for the SI2. Even though you can't really see them in the diamond, I'm worried they could be a potential durability problem with the stone.

That is a gorgeous stone. I am always envious when someone finds a beautiful SI2. I am not a gemologist but I can tell you from my personal experience from owning an SI2 stone ( the AVC that you see in my profile photo) and an I1 stone that I bought preloved from another PSer who bought it from GOG in 2007 ( I think). Both eye clean and had a feather near the girdle. The AVC had a tiny nick in the girdle that you can feel with your finger nail. I wore the AVC all the time and I am very hard on my rings. The platinum setting that it was in, is all bent out of shape and warped but the avc is still in perfect shape. The I1 stone was well loved by its previous owner and survived in perfect condition, I had it appraised in April 2014 prior to purchase. So an SI2 with that plot would not stop me from buying that stone. But would YOU be ok with it? It would be a mind clean issue.

I would absolutely be fine with the inclusions if there is no glaring issue that I am not seeing. I keep looking at it trying to find something more wrong with it. The more I look at it, the more beautiful it becomes. I've done a lot of looking and comparing to the point I am sick of looking. I tend to over think things. I had a filter on my search for SI1 or higher but was discouraged at my results. So I decided to throw an SI2 into the mix and this stone STICKS OUT! I guess I'm looking for validation. It seems to good to be true.

thanks for your input.

Yes there are some awesome SI2 out there... very rare so consider yourself soooo lucky to find an eye clean SI2. Eye clean SI2 do not stay in the market very long coz they are snapped up fast. I actually bought another SI2 stone that I am in the midst of getting a custom setting done. It is a Blue Nile stone. It has a few clear crystal inclusions, and a feather that I can't find with a loupe. It took me a long time to find it. Had to go through a bunch of SI1s and SI2s stones to find it. It is scary to read up on feathers but after owning a couple and knocking them around a few times,it doesn't worry me anymore. You can always send the stone to an appraiser and ask for independant opinion if the feather pose any durability issues.

I think you should have JA comment on that feather. Just my opinion.

That's what I'm waiting on. Their gemologist is going to inspect it and get back to me but I'm looking for some additional feedback. Thanks

Wow! That feather is practically invisible. As long as it isn't a durability risk, I think you have a winner.

Thanks! That's what I'm hoping for!!

That is incredible! Great find

Bumping this thread, I'm still hoping for further input. The gemologist has until tomorrow (Tue Dec 15) to get back to me with their findings.
