Hi,

My girlfriend (soon to be fiance) has decided upon the Asscher cut. After much reading here and elsewhere, it appears to me that selecting a stone is not just looking at the specs, but also the evaluating the beauty of the stone itself.....and this is where I really have no experience and nothing to compare to.....thus would appreciate any and all feedback on this stone I am seriously considering. Attached is a 40x magnification. I have not figured out how to attach more than one file to this post so will attach to the next items in this thread the GIA report, Sarin report, and Ideal Scope Image.

Thanks in advance for insight and feedback.

That stone looks great to me!

its a good one.
Bit too much tilt in the photo but can see enough to judge it.
The IS image confirms its a good one it is much better centered.

Beautiful... Can I ask where you found it and the ballpark price you are getting it for???

I almost didn''t click on this thread because I know nothing about asschers. Am I glad I did. I would have hated missing seeing that first pic you posted. What a beautiful stone.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

One more quesiton - on the Ideal Scope, it is my understanding that the red areas represent light being reflectted back and white areas are light leaking through. What are the black areas?

contrast caused by head shadow,
ie that area is acting as a flat mirror not a prism.
on an asscher they show up either white or black and both are fine and its what causes the pattern to form.

Thanks Strmrdr!

Yup, Storm knows his asschers BIGTIME, he helped me pick out mine and I just loooove it!!!!

Ok, one final question on this Asscher cut - I will be purchasing this stone from a reputable internet dealer (mentioned regularly here on Pricescope). The jeweler providing the setting and third party stone appraisal (also reputable & well regarded) is also out of my home state. What thoughts are out there as to whether I have the stone shipped directly from the internet dealer to the jeweler vs. the stone shipped to me first? Do I need to look at the stone in person (internet dealer has a 10 day return policy) before it is set by the jeweler? The stone is graded SI1.

Again, any and all thoughts are appreciated!

I had the diamond sent to the appraiser before I bought it, which I found to be extremely helpful. The appraiser was able to show me all of the nuances of the diamond and point out all inclusions. I walked away from the appraisal feeling like I had all of the tools necessary to make an educated decision. I gave me peace of mind knowing that an educated professional in the business (and not the seller) had studied the diamond and given me his opinion on everything from how strong of a "D" it was to the L/W ratio.

With an si1 asscher id be inclined to view it before setting.
This one looks like it will be eyeclean but looking it over will remove all doubt.

Strmrdr - would you trust the appraiser (well known/reputable/independent from diamond dealer) to make the "eye-clean" determination?

tough question.
Im a I want to see it myself type person and everyones eyesight varies.
But over all the answer is yes Id be comfortable with a known to me appraisers opinion also.
You could also ask for Brian to take a look at it before its shipped.
He has a ton of experence judging if diamonds are eyeclean or not.

Can you see any inclusion in that pictue? Not me.... and that is times larger than the diamond is. Once it is set, there isn''t much left to see than the top down view like that, so the picture qualifies for proof. Perhaps I would not say that about a random picture because there is such thing as picture editing, but WF is well above that - judging from their track record. And there is that return policy too. There is some degree of subjectivity in the ''eye clean'' qualification and that probably leaves both seller and appraiser guessing about your understanding of ''eye clean''. Beyond that, either can help with the id. Just my o.2, of course.

Perhaps you do not have other diamonds at hand to compare, but there are quite a few online with pictures and stats available. Most likely allot more than in any jewelry shop. The experience is not quite the same, but there is allot to see nevertheless.
