Feathers a durability issue?

Hi all,

I just proposed and my fiance loves the diamond and ring. Since I don''t need to worry about whether she will like it now, I am less concerned about the aesthetic details, but the worry-wort in me is slightly concerned about the inclusions.

The diamond is a GIA Round 1.82 SI1 I Excellent Cut. The feathers are small, but one does appear visible on both the top and bottom diagrams, which I hear may be a durability issue. I have attached the GIA diagram, but the quality of the image is pretty poor. The feathers are all more or less on the left-hand side (looking down). There is also a cloud that is hard to see on here, but is actually visible to the naked eye from the side of the diamond - I am OK with that, more concerned about the feathers being a durability issue.

If anyone is able to comment, I''d really appreciate it! I am insuring the ring, but it would be good to know if this could be a substantial risk, or if I can rest a little easier and just move on.

Forgot to mention that the jeweler who set the stone didn''t think there was any issues (he didn''t sell me the diamond I ended up with) and I think he initially wanted to talk me out of it to sell me one of his diamonds - since he said it looked fine, I am thinking that he was being honest, but just wanted a second opinion since i''ve read so much about feathers potentially being a durability issue.

No one will be able to tell you from the lab report diagram. They would have to see the actual stone. It might have been a good idea to have an independent appraiser check the stone for you before you gave it to her, because I am doubtful that she would want to give it up now! But it is good that the jeweler who did not sell the stone said it is fine. I''d just insure it and not worry about it!

Sorry, we can't tell anything from the plotting diagram. But I wouldn't worry about it, I am sure you are fine.

It is rare that a feather is a durability issue, so enjoy your engagement and that lovely ring on her finger!

Thanks to both of you for your answer - thought I''d try one more image of the GIA report, this is a little cleaner. You may have meant that even with the clearest GIA report, you wouldn''t be able to tell without looking at the actual diamond, in which case I can always try to get it looked at by an appraisor.

I''d really agree with Diamondseeker on this one. You''ve already given the ring, so make sure it''s insured and let her enjoy it.

It''s probably fine, but only an appraiser would know for sure. I would just insure your ring and don''t worry about it!! That''s what insurance is for! Chubb and jewelersmutual are the big names in jewelry insurance.
