Fear of jewelry?

I found this long list of postings kind of amazing. If one reads enough about this phenomenon, there are many recurring themes. Not everyone who has the problem reacts to the same things in the same way, but often there will be several people who share a reaction. Some people who hate jewelry also hate coins, for instance. Some people who hate jewelry also hate pearls. Some people who cannot tolerate metal jewelry can tolerate plastic or "jelly" or string jewelry; others cannot. Some people fear all round objects.

I continue to be fascinated and to want to learn more. I do not think I am going to find one secret answer any more than there is any one way in which someone suffers from OCD, but this is still just a beginning of exploration for me.

Really interesting find. I think you're right, that this phobia can be varied in its expression just the way that OCD and anxiety in general can be. Like you said, I'd like to get a new thread started about "the crazy in all of us."

I am really weird about metal/change as well, so I think this thing is really not that unusual. I also don't touch door handles or doors if at all possible, and that's only gotten worse since I got pertussis.

I have significant OCD, as does my daughter, but in neither of us does it take the form of not wishing to touch metal or jewelry. My OCD, by the way, has nothing to do with the odd symptom I have had that I mentioned above. My OCD is extremely run-of-the-mill. When we do the odd symptoms thread I will tell you about my non-OCD weird symptom.
