A lot of threads recently have reminded me of my favorite quotes from my mom. Here are the top two.

"Be nice to the nerds," she would say every morning when I got out of her car while dropping me off at school.

and

"Remember, Sloppy drunks don''t get the hunks!" Said to me as I left for college.

my mom always said to remember "what goes around comes around" and "By the grace of God I"...Her favorite saying...The oldest words of pen and tongue...I didnt do that when i was young. and "life is what happens when you are making plans"...thanks for the post and bringing up good memories.

Something my mother always says, but not sure who the original person who said it was, "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine."

I cannot count the amount of times she said that to me in high school and university.

Love that quote from you mum addy, got to remember that for when my DS is older LOL

When in a heated arugument/debate with my dad about certain issues, his response to me would always be, "One thing has nothing to do with the other"!!!!! It''s probably just his go-to line, but it always stopped me dead in my tracks, and made me think hard about what I was saying/asking of him. He''s so Robert DeNiro in "Meet the Parents".
If I had to describe my dad perfectly that would be it!

Hahah that is another one of my mom''s favorites!

my momma always told me ''fake it ''till you make it''.

this one has especially come in handy the past year or so

My grandma on dating: "Collect and then select."

Such a cutie!

My mom: "To be sorry is to make an inner decision to behave differently"

Even as an adult, I automatically respond with that when I hear someone say they''re sorry but clearly don''t mean it.

I love your grandma''s saying. Please ask if, she''s still available, whether I might have permission to borrow it for use with our soon-to-be 13 year old granddaughter

I always heard, "If you want to dance, you have to pay the fiddler" about consequences.

Oooh, thought of another one: my mom would often use her grandmother''s saying "Pretty is as pretty does."

That has got to be the best quote ever! I think I''m going to make a big sign and put it over my desk at work. Or better yet, maybe I''ll add it to my signature!

My mom: "Pride comes before the fall."
Everyone is so used to her saying it. It was really cute a few years ago when my little niece (probably then 4 or 5) repeated that line to her brother, when he was showing off about something!

Ooooh, when I read the title of this post two sayings my mom would say frequently came immediately to mind. But after reading everyone else's...well ...they all seem so insightful and somewhat squeaky clean. I think I may hold off. haha...

Great thread.

My mothers favorites.

"meant to, never plowed no corn" and "a stitch in time saves nine"

I sometimes say it to my clients and often to my husband. It''s one of my favorites...now.

I''m sure she would love for you to use it. I must have been around 13 when I heard it for the first time.

Such thought-provoking, profound quotes! My mom used to say, "Nothing has grown in there (the fridge) since the last time you looked!"

Let''s see...one of my favorite things that my dad says (that I have caught myself repeating) is when someone does something stupid and dangerous (like run in front of a moving car...)

"That''s how angels are made".

Don''t know why, but it always makes me smile!

My mom''s was not sweet or cute.

"Life is not fair" (suck it up, it could be worse) as MY favorite thing to say, or whine, was THAT''S NOT FAIR!

My mom refuses to ever say something "sucks," so she says, "That is of poor quality." She made my brothers and me use that phrase when we were growing up, and it''s still funny to hear. I remember my then three-year-old brother telling her once that her vegetables were "of poor quality" and my mom running out of the room to hide how hard she was laughing.

Said by my delightful, sweet Mother on many an occasion when I had incurred her wrath: "I brought you into this world, and I can TAKE YOU OUT!!!"

LOL Emm, my Mom used to say the same thing! She would also say "as long as I''m bigger than you" and "come here and let me give you something to cry about".....that would end the tears right away.

The best one was "you''re grounded til you''re 30".....I miss my Mom. She passed away last October 4. My Dad passed away on April 17, 2007. I miss him, too.

Haha, these are hilarious!

DHs mother used to say to him, "OK, so you''re bigger than me... so what? You''ve gotta sleep sometime!"
23.gif
And ocasionally she''d even add grisly details like, "I''ll pour something in your left ear that comes our your right one!"
23.gif

He says he was never 100% sure she WOULDN''T do it!!!

I like this. Perfect for my boys, since they are all bigger than me.

Caroline, I tell my boys that all the time, they hate it.

Ellen, it used to drive me NUTS.

She also loved saying "there is no justice outside of the family" Nor in it, apparently! Sort of went along with the not fair stuff, but her implication was you could expect family to behave in a certain way but not anyone else. Meanwhile, family (especially my sister) can be the worst in terms of no justice.

Plus, my mom would always tell me she would do these sayings in needlepoint for me to frame or make a pillow out of! As if.
