Show me your favorite bezel pendant settings!

I love the thin bezel of WF's setting, but it has a little too much metal behind it in the back, and the budget doesn't really allow for custom changes. Does anyone just do a thin, stock bezel with nothing huge and clunky behind it? I'd actually like to lay as flat as possible. Oh, and I don't mind the mickey ears, just as long as they aren't really big and noticeable compared to the size of the diamond (which, in my case, would be ~.35ct).

(Sorry for 2 posts about the same thing. I wish I'd thought to include this in my last bezel pendant question thread, but it didn't really occur to me until I was looking through all of the beautiful neck shots posted in a previous thread!)

Here''s mine. . .(very blurry photo, sorry)

It''s an exact duplicate of the Tiffany & Co. one but it does have slight mickey mouse ears. I found pictures online of various angles of the original necklace and printed them out and a local jeweler made a duplicate.

At the time I had the necklace made, I couldn''t find any line styles that looked similar. If you can''t find one and would like a designed one, I can take better pictures so you can look at how it''s made. Only recently have I mastered the micro mode on my camera so the below photo was taken before that.

FWIW, the stone is a .38. Its a great size for a bezel pendant.

MC,

Yours is exactly what I have in mind! Beautiful.

Does it have a lot of metal in the back? And if you don''t mind my asking, what was the price range on having just the setting custom made? (I completely understand if you feel uncomfortable answering that last one!). I just want to get an idea of if custom is even within range.

The metal just goes around the girdle and the culet is exposed and touches the skin. There is one down-side to this style. . . it cannot be layed down on the counter w/out worry that the culet may chip. That kind of bugs me. The diamond isn't protected as other styles are.

The price was ridiculous and I made a mistake picking the jeweler I did. He is a professional who custom designs ALL his pieces and overcharges as a result. I was in a hurry to have the pendant made, so I went with him. Another jeweler I spoke with gave me a quote of around $200 (I'm not sure if that included chain pricing), but the guy I went with charged me (including a MUCH heavier than the Tiffany style chain) $600. It's platinum and the chain is very sturdy wheat style.

So you did get a quote of around $200? That''s what I''m hoping for, in WG. I guess I just need to start asking for quotes, maybe locally.

You bring up a good point about an uncovered culet- thank you. I''ll ask about a small bar behind it (another PSer had this done) and hope it can all stay within budget!

I got a bezel pendant from BN and I love it. It has the micky mouse ears, but honestly they aren''t noticeable while worn. I like that the culet isn''t exposed and the overall pendant is a good balance between delicate and sturdy. The setting itself was cheap and so was the BN diamond. I don''t have the upgrade options, but I''m okay with that for a small purchase like this. Ooh, I love yours too! Thanks for the link! I''ll definitely look into BN''s diamond choices.

MC and kcoursolle-

Do you notice a lot of flipping? I''m set on a full bezel, but I''m wondering if the amount of metal in the back prevents -or- contributes to any flipping?

It flips sometimes, but really not that much. However, it does slide up my neck quite a bit and I have to pull it back into place. I think this is unavoidable with any pendant unless you get a slide style.

A slide style, huh? I wonder how that''d look with a bezel. Maybe a bezel with a tiny loop at the top, sideways, for the chain to slide through? (Am I making sense?)

Though, a .35ct diamond is probably going to slide up no matter what. It''s gotta be pretty light.

Mine flips and it moves up the side. I purchased a four-corners WF pendant a few weeks back and it moves up toward my throat and then tips down. The WF stone is a .41. Seems like pendants, regardless of style, don''t like to cooperate.

A REALLY big stone would probably stay in place nicely. That''ll be a long time down the road for me though

Here''s mine. It''s a 1.04 carat. The chain''s 18" but I have an O ring at 16.
I''ve found that it rarely flips but does move up the side.

MC, yours is gorgeous

. How thick is that chain? Thinking of changing mine.

elle, i love your pendant - can i ask where you got it?

Thanks Chickpea.

I purchased the stone through GOG. It''s an H&A and just beautiful.
But, I had it set locally. If you''re in NYC it''s Greenwich Jewelers. They''re downtown and very nice.

Elle - your necklace is very pretty as it is. The chain on mine is either 1.6 or 1.7 mm thick. At the time, it seemed more appropriate since my kids were very small and were (and still are) very physical. I don''t even wear necklaces around them as I fear they may accidently yank on one and break it. One of my Tiffany silver chains was tugged on and broke SO easily so now I''m careful.

elle, yours is gorgeous too! Does it have tiny little loops coming up from the sides that hold the chain? Thanks for sharing the picture!

Hi Ebree,
No loops. To be honest, I can''t stand them unless they''re very small and I haven''t yet seen any that are. I had them solder the chain to the bezel since I don''t
like sliding pendants.

MC I think you got a great deal on that chain. Mine is also platinum but much thinner and the cost wasn''t that much less.

Yep, I started checking prices and it seems the price was reasonable. It seemed like so much at the time especially since I told my husband I''d spend only $300.

Now I wish I just has spent the $600 on a small REAL Tiffany one. lol

Aww.. Tiffany or not, I''t still gorgeous.
Speaking of, they opened a new one right near me and I''m on my way now. Thinking of getting another pendant.
This time, a Lucida.

I had signed pieces set my RB diamond in a platinum bezel very similar to the Elsa Peretti ones and it cost me $275 or $375 (i can''t remember which) , but that was 3 or 4 yrs. ago. The bezel is very very thin. I have a pair of WF baby bezel earrings and the bezel on the earrings is at least twice the size as on the pendant.

I prefer the thinness of the pendant.

elle, a lucida pendant sounds gorgeous!

Well, I''m waiting on a custom quote from a local jeweler, and I found a stone that looks really promising. I''d post specs, but I don''t want anyone to snatch it up! Fingers crossed the quote comes back in budget.
