Hi girls,

I'm thinking I'd like to place a fan on each chair (or in a basket) since it will probably be hot (plus I'm thinking it will look nice)

A while ago I had seen a post by chargergrrl with straw-like palm-looking fans. They weren't hers, they were someone else's, but I can't find them again, and they were really nice. Can anybody remember/locate that post, or tell me where I can buy them?

If those are too expensive, I'll probably do plain paper fans...can anybody recommend a good vendor for those? I want something fairly nice looking...

Thanks girls!

Sarah, the straw fans could work...they feel a little too asian-y, but they are probably better as far as using them because of the long handle (the ones I had seen I think had a loop at the bottom). So I may have to actually consider these...I wonder if places like Michael''s would sell them?

blondie23 yours are cool, thanks for the idea, they''re just not quite what I''m looking for...

I saw these, and they are actually beautiful, but they''re $5.50 each...seems too expensive for something people may not even use and throw out at the end of the day or when they get home...

Ooh those are pretty! But I agree, a bit too pricey. Definitely check Michael''s! As well as any other place like Tuesday Morning.

I know, aren''t they?

Do you think there''s something to what I said about the handle, rather than a loop? I like the loop better, but I''m thinking it may not be as comfortable to use them? Not sure...I found them on this site but they''re out of stock until end of May, so I can''t get them there.

Hi claudinam! Just wanted to say that I used those type of straw fans in my wedding and placed one on each ceremony chair. It turned out great and everyone used them. (To fan themselves AND to block out the sun, which wasn't an expected use, but it worked out well!) They were bought in the Philippines (my family is from there) and my wonderful aunt picked them up while visiting. But I remember seeing them available online at many places so I know they can be ordered that way too.

I'll see if I can attach a picture....

And as far as the handles, mine were the loop kind, and I really like those. They're easy to hold (easier than they look).... you just grasp the whole loop. Here's a funny picture of them in use and the guests blocking the sun with them. I didn't realize they would use the fans that way! I turned to peek at everyone halfway through the ceremony and all I could see were fans in the air-- it took everything I had for me to not burst out laughing!!

Oops, that the wrong pic, sorry!

This is the one I meant to post....

ETA: This is the website I was looking at before, I think SarahLovesJS also posted a link from there.... natural straw fans. They come in a pack of 12 and seem pretty affordable, but noticed that the sizes in one pack can vary.

chellebelle, THANKS so much for posting that! Your wedding looked beautiful, and I love the way the fans looked on the chairs! Now I know I definitely want to do that! I'm also so glad to hear the loops were actually very easy to use. Now I wish I had someone to pick them up for me in the Phillipines!

But you're right, they can be found on the Internet, I just gotta find a vendor I feel comfortable with.

ETA: hahaha EVERYONE was covering their faces! That's a great added bonus for having the fans!

hi there!

i haven''t been on PS lately, ''cause of work. but i happened to see your post today.

my program fans were awesome- i got a ton of compliments on them.

here''s a pic- they''re identical to chelle''s. BTW- I bought them from oriental tradiing co.

Hi ChargerGrrl, you''ve been MIA!

Thanks for posting those for me again...

Were you happy with the vendor, shipping times, quality of the fans?

I was also going to suggest Oriental Trading Company! As a teacher, I have never had a problem with them, and have ordered stuff from them every year for over 15 years. They ship quickly and I''ve never had an order messed up.

I am considering these and possibly stamping on them...they are the cheapest I have found anywhere, and I was eyeing some up on ebay and a buyer commented that she was surprised they were from OTC, so I looked them up there. The ebay sellers are selling them for double what I can get them for at OTC. They also have different sizes, as well, and I thought fold-up ones might be nice.

There are also these which look a little bit nicer quality and have a design on them, but I''m not sure I want to add an Asian aspect into my already jumbled wedding.

Here are the straw fans like chellebelle''s-12 for $7.95. These are pretty cheap in comparison to what I''ve seen at Michael''s, JoAnn''s, etc...

Hope that helps!

Ya know, I hadn''t thought of using fans but I might just look into them for our outdoor wedding. Thanks for posting them everyone, and thanks for starting this thread Claudinam!

i have nothing but good things to say about oriental trading co. the fans arrived on time, and in great condition. if you google their name and "coupon code" you should run into some discount codes and/or free shipping.

the ONLY thing is that they vary in size. not too greatly, but enough to make a difference for our wedding program idea. we had to downsize the circle template a bit in order for it to fit on the smallest fan.

i have to give my MOH credit for executing this. I came up with the idea to somehow incorporate our program into the fan, but she actually figured out how to do it. she''s the crafty one! Note that this won''t work if you have a long ceremony or one with many elements, and/or large wedding party, as i doubt that the program content would fit on one "circle". but it worked for our 15m ceremony and MOH/BM wedding party!

Thank you guys!

Harleigh - you saved the day by posting the link directly to the straw/palm fans! I had gone to the site earlier but when I searched for fans those had not come up.

Zoe - go for it! I think they add a nice touch, inexpensively.

ChargerGrrl - Thanks for the feedback on the vendor and the warning about the different sizes. I don''t plan on using them for programs, just as fans, but still, I would hate if some were really off...so hopefully they''ll be pretty much even like they were for you.

I just placed my order, they said I should receive them by 5/22.

Claudinam,

I''m glad you decided on the fans! I am also getting married in Mexico and am putting fans on the chairs at the ceremony. I was planning on getting the same ones you ordered, but now am considering these to add some color. I know these are more Asian-inspired, but would they seem odd at a wedding in Mexico? I really like the pop of color they would provide against the white chairs. What do you guys think?

indy - I don't think those look Asian at all! And actually, if I showed them to my FI, he'd probably say, why aren't WE doing those? When I showed him the ones I picked, he was asking me a million questions, like, "oh, they don't close?" blah blah blah blah hahahahah I think they would look great against the white chairs.

Now you've got me double thinking my choice! (since my chairs are wood, and I'm using orange flowers and petals as the decoration for the ceremony!)

ETA: Indy, where in Mexico are you getting married, and when?

ETA2: What's your adorable doggie's name? (I need to know people's pet's names! I love animals!)

No no no, please don''t second-guess your choice! I''ve been dead set on the ones you ordered, and just started considering the other ones today. I am also doing orange (and red) flowers and decorations. I don''t want to go overboard on the orange...

You know what, you're right, Indie...

I think the natural color of the fans will go great against the darker wooden chairs...plus I do intend on doing some kind of ribbon or something to them to add a little something of color...

So I think you're right...

ETA: hmmm...orange and red...may have to steal that idea! hahahahahah I'm only like 30 days to my wedding and I just decided to do all orange because really I just get so overwhelmed with the possibilities...but I keep telling the florist that I like MUTED colors rather than VIVID...so I hope she's "getting" the kind of orange I have in mind!

I am loving the straw fans!
30.gif
I might do those, too. Do you think they''d work for a garden? I love what you did with the programs, I know you posted that for me before charger! I think they looked great, so I might have to steal your ideas.
