A couple years ago there was a thread here in RT which had this beautiful HUGE (20+ carats?) old mine that was almost shaped like an oval with 8 perfectly balanced mains and a very large culet. It was not one of the most famous diamonds, but it was pretty famous and highly significant. If someone said the name I might remember it. I think it might have been up for auction?

You mean the Wittelsbach??

I wonder if its still in that shape?

No, that''s not the one I''m thinking of but wow what color it has! It better still be in that shape!!!

This one was in the range somewhere D-M I do not recall, but it was in the realm of clear. Also, it had to have been at least a year if not two ago because I really didn''t spend much time here the last year and I was still active when it was posted. I remembered thinking - wow, this is my dream cut!

BTW DG do you have any pictures of stones you haven''t shared yet?

I figured it out - funny - it was the exact name that I thought it was but I doubted myself... I just googled the name and voila!

So whats the name? We''re curious now!
Is the Regent by any chance? I''ve always heard that that''s the most beautiful cut famous stone. However, I don''t think its a low color--I think its supposed to be very white (but could be wrong).

hi - oh funny, I didn''t post the name - silly me! here''s a link:

Emperor Maximilian
Emperor Maximilian

Heard of Maximilian and Carlotta but never heard of this diamond.
They were selling it on EBAY?!!!!
I wonder what they got.
The pictures made it look as if it had a an awful lot of visible black inclusions but I suppose that cna''t be the case if its a VS1.
Very interesting, thanks for the link.

I can''t get a picture to post... maybe someone else can :)

Strange place to sell such a large diamond too - on Ebay.

Here is one of my favorite websites to check out famous diamonds.
