Hello! My grandmother, who died 20 years ago, had this very pretty ring that she said was a sapphire. I'm not sure if any of you can say anything about it, but I'm wondering whether it's worth appraising. Sorry for my photo taking skills (awful) and I should have cleaned the stone... I can see my fingerprint on it. I took the pics with my iphone, natural light outdoors and against a dark background indoors with poor lighting. 923AA64D-50AB-43FA-9A4F-A1F5444E427F.jpeg 07160253-AAC6-4B17-B32F-4D0D0DCEE72D.jpeg 9D24DDBF-B95A-4E59-B2A3-A84160F77EFA.jpeg 46C8E3E2-007B-4B68-A1F4-9CB1CF8A889B.jpeg 267E5870-669A-4206-AC07-D78CEA81AF90.jpeg 95D16853-3674-4CBF-A6E1-0948B185D51F.jpeg Thank you!

It's a very pretty ring! It does look like a sapphire ... the carat weight and the even coloration makes me wonder if it may be a synthetic/lab sapphire (it was quite popular in the early/mid 1900s to put lab sapphires and rubies into jewelry).

The setting looks quite unique ... would you be able to post a pic of the ring in profile?

Is there a gold metal stamp and/or any hallmark inside the shank?

If it were gold-filled or gold plate, then I would think it more likely to be a lab sapphire.

But lab sapphires were commonly set in higher gold too -- still, if the metal is 14kt or higher, since it is a family heirloom and you are curious, it may be worthwhile to send to GIA.

I'm not sure what to think of it... I came from an area of gold-mining, so high-karat gold would have not been rare, but sapphires would have been. Here are some more photos. No stamp or hallmark inside the shank that I can see 50FEEABF-8290-4E3B-9A23-3FED6B793DBF_1_201_a.jpeg 8CF33F6E-2F96-4D65-894C-3595400CE593_1_201_a.jpeg

Facet pattern is what leans my thoughts to synthetic /simulant

What a colour! So pretty. Dll on you have a possibility to bring it to a jeweller? They can test it for you.

Oh, interesting! I had no idea that you could tell based on facet pattern, but that makes sense!

I think I may. I have some other jewelry to appraise/sell, but don't know anyone in my area...

The colour is gorgouse !
Do you wear it ?
I do, actually, a lot! Considering how long it has been in the family and how often it has been used, it's held up well!
