I posted last week regarding opinions for resetting my princess prong set eternity into a channel setting. I went to the jeweler that I have used for many projects in the past (and where I got the original ring) and I was quoted $600 for the new setting, no new diamonds. This seems a bit steep to me? I was expecting more along the lines of $350-500 max especially since I am scrapping the old setting and they have a good trade-in policy. Thoughts? I will likely do it but was just wondering if this was normal. I do know that metal prices are astranomical now...

Depends on the quality. The metal and labour to set the stones costs money though. I was quoted $1000 for a similar reset in white gold by a PS vendor.

That sounds fair to me.

I would have expected 800-1000 so your quote seems fair to me

What metal? How many stones? Honestly, I expected the price to be far higher unless the jeweler is throwing in the setting labor.

I think the $600 sounds fair from my experience. If you trust the jeweller and have had other work done there, I'd stick with the tried and true... unless you are going to try out one of the PS vendors. IS that an option?

Otherwise - $600 seems good.

Sounds very good to me!

Did some more research and that price is more in line with the mounting only, so either your jeweler is giving you the value of the setting labor as trade for your ring/scrap or he is throwing it in (which I highly doubt knowing what the cost of channel setting princess cuts is).

Thank you everyone! This jeweler does excellent work so I'm not looking to go anywhere else. It's been awhile since I've had work like this done and I guess metal/labor prices have increased a lot since then. I was just a little surprised by the quote which is why I asked. However, I certainly don't mind paying for quality work.

yes they have.. :((

:wavey: MrsA - did you decide to go with the channel set or prongs, as per your last thread?

Channel...when I can get together the money to change the setting! Guess I know what my birthday/anniversary present will be this year!

LOL! well, even tho you know what it is... you also know its something that you want

When are the 2 events? coming up soon? How many years for your anniversary?

Hi Enerchi!
My birthday is in June and our anniversary is in Oct but my band is being worked on now as we speak! I'm excited to get it back sometime late next week. They are doing a narrow channel in platinum with milgraining so I think it will be much more comfortable and even more beautiful than my prong set. I will try to post b&a pictures. My WB stones are nowhere near as nice as some of those on here but I'm happy with them and they are sentimental so that is why I decided for the reset.
