I am looking into purchasing a diamond for an engagement ring. After looking at a variety of choices at a local jeweler, the one that was most impressive to the eye was a Lazare diamond with the following GIA report specs:

Shape & Cutting Style: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.44 - 6.50 x 3.97 mm
Carat Weight: 1.00 carat
Color Grade: H
Clarity Grade: SI1
Cut Grade: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Table: 56%
Total Depth: 61.4%
Crown Angle: 35.0
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 41.0%
Pavilion Depth: 43.5%
Girdle: Thin-Medium (Faceted)
Culet: Very Small

Based on the above specs, would this be considered a quality diamond? After negotiating, the best price I was able to get was $7,850 -- is this reasonable (considering jeweler markup and bump due to branded diamond)? I realize I could buy for cheaper from online vendors, however I''d prefer to buy locally as long as I''m not getting a horrible price. Any assistance you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well, Lazare diamonds are known for being well cut so I wouldn''t worry there. As far as the price, you can use the "pricescope your diamond" tool above to see what H/VS/SI with ideal/excellents cuts are going for. You''re right, you could do cheaper online. As far as it being a horrible price or not, that''s up to each individual to decide. But hey, you''ve got good taste.

HMMM, personally, for 1.00 ct, I would not pay that. ALthough that''s a nice one.
