Hi there-
I posted a question in your SMTR thread but I''m not sure how frequently you check that, so I figured I''d repost it here. I seriously LOVE your stone. I always thought the older cuts were beautiful but never had an opportunity to see one. Yours has TOTALLY convinced me that I want one. It''s AMAZING!!!

Care to share who you got the stone from? I know you said earlier that it was through a dealer in NYC but you worked w/ your local jewler. I''m dying to go take a look. Also, are OECs significantly more expensive then the modern stones since they are so much more rare? Thanks so much.

Scarlet

Hi Scarlet, sorry I missed your other post. I'm in NC, so the local jeweler who helped me/FI was Grimball Jewelers in Chapel Hill (a woman named Kathie). The had to bring in a few stones for FI to look at. She did say that they weren't the easiest to locate because they are growing in popularity again...but they also aren't used to dealing in old stones other than their own estate collection. I don't know if you ever get out to California, but I would definitely look at www.singlestone.com and www.langantiques.com I'm not sure where to visit in NYC, but maybe someone else here has a suggestion...

As for price, everyone I spoke with said that they used to be less expensive than modern rounds because they weren't as desirable, though that isn't the case anymore. With the rise in popularilty, I found them to be roughly equal in price to a well-cut round. I hope that helps, I'm sorry I don't have more info for you. I know that most jewelers with good contacts could probably locate and bring in a couple stones for you to look at, and other than that, I'd visit an auction or a good antique jewelery store.

Oh wait, I just thought of one good one in NYC (at least from the gorgeous collection on their website): http://www.estatediamondjewelry.com/index.cfm

OMG I must live near you facetfire, I shop at Grimball Jewelers too! They helped me re-set my OEC (just about .75 carats, family stone) with two sapphires and I also had my e-ring diamond reset there too. Aren''t they great? I think they are a little pricey compared with online but the service and knowledge is excellent. Benita is the person who I always work with there; she is fabulous.

Anyway AWESOME maybe there is a chance I will run into you in real life and get to meet you and admire that beautiful ring!!! There are not too many around like that!!
