Hi,

I''m a newbie coming up to speed here in the last few days. I''ve decided that I''m going to pop the question, and I''m trying to absorb a tremendous amount of information at once...

I''ve found several candidate stones online. One in particular I''m looking at is a ~1.5ct ideal F/VS2. I''m wondering if people feel that this is a reasonable choice. I had originally been looking at E/VVS2, but it would reduce the stone size considerably. I don''t think the stone size matters at all to her, but I''d like to get her something very nice. Stone size doesn''t matter as much as quality to me, either, but from what I''m gathering unless you''re interested in an investment purchase, it''s not going to be easy to see the difference between E and F color, or VVS1/VVS2/VS1/VS2 clarity, especially if it''s a very good cut (the HCA on most of the stones I''m looking at is 1-2).

I''m going to start getting up-to-speed on rings next...see the next post... :)

F VS2 is a very safe bet.

Hi adrock,

You''re correct in that no one will see much, if any difference between D and F.You could even go to G without seeing any warmth, unless you and/or she are highly color sensitive. For the majority, it''s a safe color at almost any size. I personally wouldn''t go above G, but that''s just me.

Same with clarity, even going down to SI1 if you wanted. Many are totally eyeclean.

I'm very color sensitive and I have an F, it's PERFECT

!!! I couldn't see the color difference between it and an E! It is so white it sometimes has a little bit of a blue hue to it

can't begin to express how much I love this!

I don't know if I would personally do a G though, I am really color sensitive. My was graded by an independent appraiser as "I would feel uncomfortable grading it any lower in color than an F" so it might be closer to an E than a G if that makes sense. It's not certed, but the store "stringently graded" it an F and the independent appraiser obviously felt it was as well.

F VS2 is definitely safe but I would go to Whiteflash and have them find a F SI1 eyeclean. You will never know the difference and you can put the extra cash into something real creative for the proposal or just get a bigger stone.

F/VS2 is a fabulous combo, in my opinion!
It''s the best of both worlds ... icy white color and should be no visible inclusions.
Fantastic carat size as well.
Can''t wait to see it!

As the very happy owner of a 1.5 ct F VS2, I think that it is the perfect combo and size! Truly the sweet spot if you are looking for colorless, clarity, and a nice size.

Good luck!

adrock, as you''ve stated in your post, "Stone size doesn''t matter as much as quality to me," so I think that you should go with the color and clarity YOU desire. I think that it is a very good sweet spot to stay in, so yes, I think that it is a reasonable choice. I would love to get a diamond with those specs!!!

Good Luck!

F/VS2 is totally the right combo for me! I''m very color sensitive and staying in the colorless range with the least amt. of visible inclusions seemed the best way to go. Although there are many SIs that can be "eye clean" and cheaper.

F/VS2 is considered by many to be the sweet spot for an e-ring :)best of both worlds in terms of clarity and colour and unless your uber colour sensitive I would even consider dropping to a G or a H :). I would personally even go down to an eyeclean SI1

F VS2 sounds really good to me! I have an F but VS2 was out of my budget (I do have an eyeclean SI2, so it really doesn''t make a difference to me visually).

F-VS2 is a great choice! It''s the one that I got ;-) I got a .90 F-VS2 last week for my soon to be fiance and I think it''s great!

Thanks all, and congrats mrsloppy_man :)

just wanted to chime in and say that F,VS2 is a great combo!

I think it''s a great combo for a gorgeous diamond.

My center stone on my new 3 stone anniversary ring is an eye clean F/SI2 form JamesAllen.com and I love it! I found that I am really color sensitive and could see a tint in G''s so we went with a very white F and it''s perfect. I still can''t get over how eye clean my SI2 is, it''s even hard to see the imperfections with a 10x loup. Jennifer and everyone at JamesAllen were very helpful in my search (I started looking at J''s) and I would highly recommend them.

F/VS2 you can not go wrong with it. You can relax
