Eye clean SI2

I''ve seen the SI2 pictures thread on PS and since I''m about to purchase one, I was wondering what internal inclusions do others eye clean SI2s have? Which inclusions are better to have in general....needles, clouds, twining wisps, feathers, crystals?

It depends Sarah, there is much to consider such as size of the diamond, type of inclusion/s, colour, location, size, visibility, size of the diamond etc, so each diamond of SI2 clarity needs evaluating on a case by case basis. Also as clarity grading is so subjective, some might be closer to SI1, others towards the other end, SI2 are not created equal, so the inclusions and eyecleanliness need consideration in each diamond. Also with the large size diamond you are considering, it may take a bit more time to find an eyeclean diamond in SI2 clarity, not impossible but it might take more time and patience. Clouds which are the grade setter in SI2 can sometimes interfere with brilliance, so these need careful evaluation.

Sarah, if you can find one with twinning wisps, those are great! Twinning wisps, from what I understand, are VERY hard to see and do not normally interfere with brilliance. I don''t have any SI2 diamonds, but the studs in my avatar are both SI1s and are 100% eye clean. I think you can find an eye-clean SI2 . . . it just takes time. Good luck!

Thanks Lorelei and Irishgrrrl! The diamond that is on hold for me right now is an SI2 with twining wisps and a feather. Chris at AGA says it was graded strictly and he would consider it an SI1, so I guess that''s a good sign. On the diagram, there are just a couple lines, no clouds or crystals. I started this post because I was just wondering what other people have inside their eyeclean SI2s.

Hi there. I''ve got a needle and a small cloud in my 0.82ct SI2. The needle can be seen from the pavilion side of the diamond, but since you can''t really look at the pavilion once its set, it doesn''t matter! I''ve never seen the cloud with my naked eye, but it is pretty visible under 10x.

just make sure the feather doesn''t break the surface near the girdle, or that it doesn''t run a significant length of the stone (as this can be a durability issue in some rare instances) and i''d say youre ok. I just bought a SI1 stone with a feather and was assured by WF that it was very small, didn''t hit the girdle of the diamond, and didn''t break any surfaces, and therefore they said it was no cause for any concern.

I talked about it in my own thread, and please keep in mind that I am not an expert at looking at stones. I have looked at about 10 different stones very closely in the last 3 weeks, spending on average 1 hour each session looking at 2 or 3 at the same time. Other than that, I'm a complete novice.

I was shown a SI2 Princess that was eye-clean (I can't see the inclusions even when the stone is only six inches from my eye). Under the loop, I can see it had three or four needles, all thin and white, and one of them is long and very close to the surface, running the width of an upper facet. I was told that the length of that inclusion is probably why it was given a SI2 grade. But even that needle was only visible when light hit it in a certain direction.

I'm not sure if that helps, but white needles seem to help quite a bit in keeping this SI2 eye-clean.

I have a feather, pinpoint and crystal in my 1.52 SI2. There are hardly any marks on the GIA diagram of my stone. My appraiser thought it could be graded a low SI1. I've put the stone all the up to my eye and can't see a thing at any angle.

I recently purchased an SI2 with 3 rather large twinning wisps. WF had told me it was eyeclean at all angles from less than 3 inches with clarity closer to an SI1. I received the ring yesterday and don't *think* I've been able to find any inclusions yet with my eye (although it is of course very noticeable when magnified). Something to think about.

You might want to check out this thread. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/does-this-look-to-good-to-be-an-si2.73154/ While everything is determined on a case by case basis, I went through the same thing a while back and ended up with an SI2. In the end it all turned out fine.

My favorite inclusions are feathers that can be covered by a prong and twinning wisps. They are super hard to see!

agree!!

I disagree.
Twinning / graining in VS is not a problem, but if it is the grade maker in an SI2 expect to notice reduced brilliancy.

I am tiring of making these comments.
You try to out expert the expert graders and find a VS2 appearing SI2 and you will come unstuck.
